Title: Fair weather window cleaners......
Post by: dazmond on January 21, 2025, 08:37:56 am
So what are you guys gonna do?Xmas break then snowy/icy weather followed by a week of rain....

1.Chimney sweeping?Sawing the edge off tiles?

2.Lazing on the sofa eating biscuits and sighing when you look out of your window?

3.Get round to all the DIY jobs your missus keeps nagging you about?

4. Pretend to have an 'admin' week?

5. Sink into a deep depression and wallow in your own self pity and get a painful pleasure out of it?

6.protectocote your van?

7. Just man up,put waterproofs on and work in it knowing your chipping away at your overdue work schedule bit by bit?

That’s a bit rich coming from someone who’s just had 3 days off because of a bit of ice when us cold water cleaners just carried on working.  ;D

I’ll be working as normal.

Weather’s been fine down south Dazmond!

Even if it wasn’t, after 33 years in this game, I don’t live hand to mouth lol

I don’t really no what you mean Daz? I had a few days off at Xmas. Then went back to work?

Isn’t that what you northerners do?

Oh I forgot, you have atrocious weather up there and only see the sun a few times a decade.

Do you lot up there have to drink pints of vitamin D?

 ;D

(Bants daz)

Well done for cracking on.

When others work in bad weather they are desperate, when you work in bad weather you are a hero.  ;D

I prefer being called a 'ninja hero' when working in bad weather! Other window cleaners are just desperate peasants!😆

It's the fairweather customers that are the problem. 😂

It's the fairweather customers that are the problem. 😂

I dumped 2 long standing customers last year when they said 'your not cleaning them today are you in the rain?'(it was only light/medium rain and it had stopped when I turned up to their properties).

I have zero tolerance with customers who won't have them cleaned in the rain. It makes zero difference if I clean them during a dry spell then it rains straight afterwards or the day afterwards.

My last job today I turned up and it was really bouncing down! but it was my last job on an estate of 80+ jobs! The customer came out and gave me a £10 cash tip as she didn't see me before xmas! These are called 'well trained customers'!😄 👍

Walked to paper shop for a paper yesterday....end of our avenue  and right down a quiet road that leads to  the main road.....I cleaned this road Tuesday.........every house looks like they haven't been cleaned for 6 months......didn't help with sun directly on front windows.........that was just the wind on Friday because it didn't rain here just very windy.........

Who cares what they look like the day after I've been. I'm there to clean 4 weeks worth of dirt off not guarantee it to stay clean for however long.

Normal wet and windy weather has little effect but if it's gale force winds and strong gusts it leaves a greasy film of dirt on some windows....

I remember once (when trad)a customer paid me again the next day to come back after a clean as they were a mess after a storm overnight.

What makes it worse is sunny days with low sun in between storms.

I personally wouldn't go back a week after a clean to reclean because of the storms. They would just have to wait until their next due. Even more so now as I'm so far behind on my work due to xmas and the snow/ice.

I dont tend to go out in the rain, i wouldnt say anyone who does is desperate though, i stay myself with the dog and cats, no kids, mind you, the pets are over £500 a month so probably cost the same as kids.

If ive got a wife who only works part time because theres 3 young kids to look after then i wouldnt be able to just not go out if its raining as you have people depending on you.

I bought myself electric gloves and they are great but only last 3hrs. I'm in the early stages of arthritis or white finger but at 58 can't complain due to my manual work. Out today with them on and it was like working in the summer months, only wish I bought them years ago.

Overcast with light rain/drizzle is probably the easiest weather to work in. Can rinse faster and usually all windows are shut with no one about. Bit depressing like this time of year but there's nowt better to do so why not. Come summer when the weather is nice there's more people about in gardens, you have to rinse more and you don't want to be there either because there a thousand better things you could be doing at home.
