Title: John Guest - Metric and Imperial sizes.
Post by: The Jester of Wibbly on January 16, 2025, 02:56:14 pm
Okay, would you say the 12mm pipe and fittings the same as 1/2 inch?

All my fittings are marked in inches, but I keep coming across more these days that they sell in metric.

So would a 12mm pipe be the same as 1/2 inch?  Any one had any experience with mixing?

I don't think so. I'm not 100% certain but I doubt it.

Technically yes it’s the same but you  will find they are different and would need a special metric to imperial fitting to join them together , if you do manage to join them and it can be done without an adapter they usually leak

There are good imperial to metric converters, which we used to use to convert and mix pipes. Then, after dealing with the hassle of mixing them, with a bit of thought, I bought metric fittings and don't use any imperial whatsoever.

So, if you work back to where a pipe comes out of an RO or a filter housing, the screw in connector will be a BSP thread of some variety. If you buy a metric to BSP fitting, you can just use metric pipe.

It's a pain to do but you only need to do it once. Now all our fittings are 15mm so everything fits everything else always.
