You think that's a rip off? you could earn that in 20 minutes cleaning a house. How many years use would you get out of it and thousands of windows cleaned? :P

It's the plastic that has worn out I think. It's rattling about when I reel in.

That's not the point. A bit of plastic and a length of 4" steel for nearly 23 quid. Give it a rest. Rip off Britain.

Everything’s a rip off in the window cleaning world!

I think this will do the job. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185809973984 £4.24. Coming from China though.

Why would you manually be reeling in a hose ?. Unless someone's just starting out and setting up on a budget, then there's absolutely no reason at all for anyone to be manually reeling in a hose.
People must be off there heads manually doing it when there's a tool that does it for you.

One less thing to go wrong.
I have owned a Hannay van mounted manual reel for 19 years. The only part I have replaced is the swivel joint when it was 13 years old.
I find it easy to reel in (reel has proper bearings) and can easily stop if hose gets snagged or twisted.

It's not hard, plus I like to spend my money on things I actually like.

We tried electric reels. Waterworks ones. Plastic crap. Forever breaking and too slow. The lads we gave them to asked for them to be replaced with proper reels.
We only use Cox reels now.

Had my HD reel from waterworks for at least 5 years now, no problem at all...and I guarantee it reels in quicker than a manual, I wouldn't be without it sod manual reeling in !

Cox reels are very good quality. The waterworks new electric reels are just not up to the job. Like you say they are cheap, plastic crap, far too flimsy to be used commercially.

What's crazy is not using reinforced pole hose on your reel.
I use cheap Claber reels with 45m of pole hose and 55m of microbore.
Light and easy. Can carry 40m of pole hose in one hand around cars, bins and corners.
I worked with my son in law who is half my age and he is lugging microbore like a lot of you guys do.
Madness.

No thanks. Sounds a absolute nightmare carrying 40m of pole hose....
Microbore is the best.
-
Each to there own i suppose, my reel has never given me any problems whatsoever. Anything that makes your working day that bit easier is worth the money.
Say the reel is £800, they reckon you should get 10 years out of 1. Let's just say its 8 years. It works out around £2 a week. It's a no brainer.

Well duh. It's only if it makes sense for that particular job. Otherwise you just walk it out.
Microbore is unnecessary, heavy and unwieldy.

Do you have a link to this pole hose Malc? I'm getting really hacked off with the rock-hard microbore that's currently on the market!! Spending more time managing hose than cleaning windows sometimes!!🤔

No point whatsoever when microbore is no problem...minibore is heavier...if you find microbore heavy i would get in the gym you big fairy.

I think some people here are getting a bit confused. Micro bore/ mini bore ..whatever is your reel hose. And what we all know as 'pole hose' is that small thin flexy stuff, some stiffer than others and some use PVU or summat, i don't know i've never tried it. I think Malc is referring to Gardiners reinforced pole hose. I use the same stuff.
https://gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/reinforced-flexible-pole-hose-5mm-id-x-9mm-od.html
You can still use your normal 'pole hose' and use this as a lighter reel hose. I should point out that Gardiner don't recommend it for that nor warrant it for that but it does work very well for that ;D

So by that token why do you need an electric reel?
And do you use scaffolding poles because you're so tough while I use Gardiner Xtremes which is why I'm happily still out there in my 60's ?
;D

Looks similar. But I bought mine from Soap National. Extreme reinforced pole hose.

You don't need to be tough to drag a bit of 6mm microbore about, that's my point.
I use a SLX but we were talking about hose weights not pole I thought???

It's the same principle. Lighter stuff means less wear and tear on you body.

I wouldn’t want my Waterworks reel to to reel in any quicker than it does. As for breaking, it’s broke once in the three years I’ve had it, I can live with that.

Whatever works for you, I think your just over complicating things for nothing....I guarantee the vast amount of people will be running 100m of microbore/minibore with just normal pole hose ;D
-
What's complicated? A thinner hose on my reel is just that.
And much lighter.
-
From my experience pole hose just doesn't lay flat across roads created a much more dangerous trip hazard than microbore does but each to there own.
-

Mine does lay flat. But that's because it's reinforced pole hose.
However have I managed for over 5 years doing this? If only someone who hadn't done it could put up reasons why I can't.
Maybe someone else can tell me I can't lift my reel out and point it in any direction, wherever I park. It must be too cheap, too heavy, too unprofessional, too light - too something plucked out of my derriere because I haven't tried it.
;D
-
My microbore doesn't lay flat, in fact it's more of a hazard than the pole hose!
-
It's the circuit hydraulics rubbish from ebay!

You have answered your own question 😂 it’s cheap and nasty stuff used it years ago , now use daqua s microbore that lays flat and is good hose .
-

I'm using some of that stuff and it's kinking. It's even worse in the cold weather. I won't be buying it again.

Me neither. I've had it a year now and it gets worse with age! Apparently Daqua sells the same hose that Gardiners used to. That stuff was great.
