Title: Univalve issues with hot water
Post by: Scotty1 on January 06, 2025, 10:46:27 pm
Hi all.
I'm new to this forum so delighted to be able to get involved here.

I wondered if any of you have ever had univalve issues with hot water? Mine works absolutely perfect with cold water but plays up big time with hot water 😭
It's only a few months old and is doing my head in.
I  can easily open the valve but it's closing it again is the issue.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated
Thank you 😊

Biggest problem we've had with the univalve and hot water is that the hose is too stretchy so it becomes harder to use. What pole hose do you use?

You need 2 things....

1. PU pole hose

2.pole hose plastic barbs for connecting john guest fittings

This will cure your problems even on the warmest days in summer when your water can be 60c.

I've found a similar situation.  I just take them apart and smear a thin layer of silicone grease on the large o ring

Thanks very much for the input all.

I use exceed innovation hose which has little stretch really plus both my poles have same age univalve and same hose so ruled out the hose.

I noticed tonight while having a closer look that the shortest pole (the one with the temperamental univalve) if I push the hose towards the brush it will shut flow off.

Maybe it needs greased up or even a fresh spring. Seems rubbish longevity given it's not that old at all. 😭

Thanks again guys I really appreciate the help.

Double check the hose isn't too close to the larger section of the univalve where it clamps on at the bottom of the univalve. If there isn't a big enough gap between the end of the hose and the univalve body then it wont close very easily. It's probably worse on hot water as the end of the hose probably expands a little making the gap even smaller. It needs to be a couple of mm.

Thanks mate but there's space there for hose.

Tempted to get a repair kit but just a bit annoying as previous univalves have lasted a lot longer before needing any attention 😕

As Ched has replied with what my problem was. I run with hot water and Exceed red pu hose and I don't even crimp the hose on the univalve because when repairing I couldn't pull the hose off. I had to trim the top of hose at the bottom of univalve with a stanley knife and worked fine.
