How many of us would need to put up prices the day this drops?
It's a big tax on those who works out on the roads. I bet Amazon Prime will double it's price 😂

Which muppets would you prefer to run the country?
I would take all media speculation with a heavy dose of salt and some chilli sauce.

When will people learn that 99% of journalists just want their articles to be read and to be accurate?
-
We already pay tax per mile when we fill up at a filling station
-
I do very little mileage now.....between 4k and 5k a year and some of that is social.....slowly got rid of some work in Bradford as they have a scheme similar to ULEZ in place now....quite a few tradesmen round here won't take on work in there now......

The right wing Express and Mail have come up with every horror scenario out regarding the up and coming budget, its scaremainering at its worse. It was bad enough when the Tories were in , social media frightening people to death about energy prices but its gone up another level now. The most frightening thing ive read about it was the possibility of means testing the state pension. It just doesn't do anyone in business any favours whatsoever all this speculation, and most of it is all political points scoring,

Some of the less extreme media articles are suggesting that it would be aimed at electric vehicles only, as this is an area which the government is losing money on.

Funny you should mention means testing the state pension. When I started in the fire service I told the guys I don't expect to get a state pension if I have a fire service pension and they all laughed. If she freezes the tax free allowance till 2028 (began in April 2022) then we will begin to pay tax on our state pension. We have more public sector employees on pension than working in the public sector so where does all the money come from to pay both? In the end something has to give no matter who is in Number ten.

With most on £60 per hour plus any likely small increase should be easily absorbed.
A far bigger threat to profits over the next decade will be the effects of global warming and resulting extreme weather. Already I dread the summer more than the winter, but at least I should be retiring in the next couple of years.

It's ridiculous isn't it?
I don't read the Daily Express or Daily Wail but plenty of my retired customers do!
It's like they just want to generate fear and anxiety which is always bad for businesses
No point worrying about scenarios that are just in your imagination and are not based in fact.

Well the budget was not as bad as I was expecting, but feel for those who employ.

The rate for ers NI has gone up and the threshold has gone down but the free bit at the start has doubled.
It'll cost me more. I'll survive.
Smaller employers will be paying less (4 or fewer employees). I've a few more than that so...

Put your prices up
Will do thanks.

Can't believe they froze fuel duty, I was expecting 10p on a litre. I don't know how folk can employ unless it has a good contract. Take the guy who wants to sub out commercial work. All you would do is employ and put another van on the road but he is obviously nervous. Must be hard if someone goes on maternity leave and you need to cover for anything up to a year.

Just so you know employers can claim between 92% and 103% of the statutory maternity pay they have to pay to the employee.
Getting cover for most occupations will be tricky and expensive though.

This is a pain in my arse:

Will now cost me a grand a year in employers N.I. being a sole director with no employees. Meaning next april i may have to employ someone to claim the employment allowance or just close the company and go back sole trader. Dividend allowance is no more and dividend rate has increased over the last few years meaning im probably worse off than a sole trader when factoring in accountant fees.
-

April next year is going to be the kicker with regards to road fund licence increases for petrol and diesel vehicles.
-
Have you been gazing into a Crystal Ball Spruce?
I would expect over the next few years the government to make owning petrol/diesel vehicles more expensive, but for this to be gradual.

Madness....
If your a one man band you would be better off as a sole trader....you don't need an accountant either. Its really easy doing your tax return online these days esp if you use round software like CP,squeegee,Aworka, etc

Isn’t a one man band by definition a sole trader?

I know i used to my own accounts as a sole trader for years. I went ltd about 6 years ago because even factoring in accountant fees i was better off and because i envisaged myself employing and expanding and then you get the other perks of being ltd. But recently it seems to have tipped the other way and theres next to nothing in it just more hassle with filing accounts.
Going to speak to my accountant about going back before april.

Isn’t a one man band by definition a sole trader?
I suppose literally yes but sole trader is usually used to describe someone who is the sole owner and operator of their business as oppossed to being a director of a ltd company. Both could be described as self employed but sole trader/director usually defines the different business structure.

It's so much more reasonable than the current flat rate where someone driving only at peak times in a city pays the same (VED and fuel taxes) as someone who drives on empty country roads at 1pm. Bring it on.
We work to keep rounds efficient and our franchisees typically cover about 3,000 miles a year.
I don't notice many Amazon vans out in rush hour so they'll probably be OK.

Can you have a sole trader partnership?
You can 100% be a sole trader and employ people. "Sole trader" is just a type of business. As is "Partnership".

Could be wrong like, I'm not an accountant and neither is Google.
