Title: Holidays and locked gates
Post by: SB Cleaning on August 06, 2024, 05:52:47 pm
I have had 8 "Sorry we're on holiday the gates locked" this week :D
Roll on when the kids go back to school, always the same in the 6 weeks holiday!

Don’t take on work with access issues unless you have a key or code that will prevent this situation or just do fronts  only at a higher price

They are all good as gold usually , I have just been unlucky this week.

Two obviously away today, gates locked. They got a text last night and didn't bother to text back. Did fronts only with a % rise. I know some charge full price but I don't think it's the way to go.

I just use ladder and go over them. I do this for a customer and she is very happy because she has an autistic child and slip bolt has a padlock on it. I have got to use ladder to clean the upstairs door anyway. Not many cleaners would go to the bother so a bit of loyalty here. We did it in the fire service, split a hatch ladder, one at front and one over on back and over you go. Adds a few minutes but its a good clean and worth my while.

A lot of customers don’t want you climbing over & I’m getting too old to be climbing over gates, with or without a ladder.

Same here if its locked then no climbing over - many customers we have specify that

anyway I think Micky you'd be happy picking up turds if you thought it would bring you loyalty  ;D

I just split my ladders and put them either side of the gate...

I had one last night but it's an 8 weekly (and I'm off to Lanzarote on the 31st for 2 weeks) so that means if I skip the job  then the windows will not have been cleaned for 18 weeks by the time i get round again.sod that!👍😂

It's worth spending another 5 mins using the ladders than skipping (esp on the larger longer frequency jobs)

This is the only time I use my ladders these days.it takes an extra 5 mins which is well worth it if it's a larger longer frequency job....

On regular 4 weekly cheaper jobs I agree I usually just clean fronts or skip altogether

I can’t be arsed to even get my ladders off these days. I’d rather ditch the job.

This is my way of thinking for the persistent customers who don't leave the gate open, i can't be bothered climbing gates.

What a faff! So you won’t use a ladder to climb onto a flat roof, but you use one to clamber over gates ??? Makes no sense!
I look forward to your post in the near future where you say you don’t climb over gates and anyone who does is a mug🤣

No flat roofs as I can reach windows from the ground with my pole...

Splitting ladders is easy, far safer than climbing on flat roofs...

It's only the very occasional job...

Today's was a £30 8 weekly job.i sent him a pic of my ladders either side of his gate and he paid me online from Greece....😄👍

I also have a 3 step ladder for unbolting  the odd gate but this one was padlocked top and bottom.

I've removed fence panels before now on some jobs...I hate doing half a job esp on an 8 weekly!👍

When a gates bolted top and bottom I use the steps to lean over to unlock the top bolt, to open bottom bolt I stand on steps and lasso bottom bolt with pole hose to get in the right position so I can then knock bolt across with bottom of pole
Bit of a pain but saves doing a front only

That's why I'm called the reliable window cleaner. No gate to tall for me to get over but I'm a young 58 year old. I think I have 2 that I regularly go over and always a care home for adults with learning difficulties. They are happy with this arrangement since the gate got left open.

Would have taken a lot longer if the ladder on the other side of the gate slipped along the gutter.
It’s not for me at any price or payment.

Any customer who bolts their gate at the bottom (not many) get a text the night before I’m due, asking them to unbolt their gate……A bit easier than taking ladders off to clamber over gates.

And if you schedule the texts alongside templates with round software such as aworka,  it eases the pain.

Just to clarify - locked = padlock - key locked or number locked  and no key or code
bolted with draw bolts we have a broom handle with a hook on the end to draw the bolt - after clean slide it back again

I just hop over.

Do it maybe one or two times a week when there’s a locked gate at the bottom/padlocked.

I never tell customers in advance when I’m due.

Always worked fine for me with no complaints. There are a very small handful of customers who want a text for locked gates, but hardly many.

They’ll come a time where I can’t be bothered to hop over, but until then 👍🏼

It's swings and roundabouts though...I have some front only customers on my cheaper estate work but they will have their backs cleaned if their in and open up their garage so I don't lose out generally.I also take on the odd fascia and conny roof clean for existing customers....
