Hi guys, today from one of my commercial clients I’ve had a request to sign up to this before Feb 2025. It appears looking at the email it’s obligatory. I’m only a one man operator. Is this as daunting as it seems? What is the process to get accredited? Also I note there are different packages also starting from £399 per year.
Any advice would be great. Thanks.

How much is the job worth? It would have to be a very profitable contract to make me want to sign up to safe contractor as a one man band.

The job is worth it as it’s monthly. Any advice of what’s involved would be great. Thanks

Hi
Talk to safe contractor for the price it varies
Its all paperwork RAMS / insurance / environmental policy / anti slavery
If you do not have the correct paperwork they will provide (sometimes for a cost)
There online application system is not easy , you should do it in a afternoon (allot of uploading )
The only issue is if you pay safe contractor and lose the job you lose money
ask the company you work for if you can put the price on
Just let mine expire use the FWC Safety Accredited Member

Handy to have it on your van and on your website. As long as the money keeps coming in and it helps you keep the contract. In the end its just another money making thing because we are all safe contractors.

Thank you. I’ve done the job for 15 years so for the sake of £400 a year or whatever it looks as though I will have to sign up. Thanks for your advice.
Ps I’ve also emailed the manager to double check as I’m a sole trader and want to make 100% sure they basically need me to sign up or I lose the job which I can not afford to.

I had a firm before COVID in about 2018 wanted me to sign up and I got dispensation from the works manager as a sole trader.
Just after COVID they wanted me to sign up to some off site buyer who wanted me to pay £250 per annum to put my invoices through them.
Works manager couldn't swing it that time and I parted on civil terms with him but stiffly wrote a polite 'stuff you' to the buyers.
Last year the replacement works manager asked if I would go back and add the (now £350 buyers fee) to the bill.
I declined. But the work was 'only' £160 a month and took 4 hours. It had been useful on rainy days and early starts but nowadays I can get better rates per hour with nice Mrs. Ladies and their easygoing pay on the day terms.
But if I were younger and keener I might have negotiated.

Better of doing SSIP type thing if there’s procurement hurdles.

SafeContractor accreditation is £640 plus vat per year, u will have to fill a lot of forms in and provide copies of recent rams for various jobs u will need to provide team talks and copies of conversations an what u discussed
If ur guna try an do it urself it’s a killer I used an external h&s lady who done it all for me aswell as sorting environmental policies and various other bits, I only have 3 employee’s inc myself if u go above 5 it opens a can of worms for more admin 🙈🙈🙈…. All to keep a customer happy when really very little refers to the work we do but commercial customers love it
Good luck
