Is utterly, UTTERLY, awful.
Hired one this weekend to move a lot of furniture for family.
Didn’t choose the maxus, assumed I’d get a lwb transit.
Drive from Essex to b-ham, so a lot of miles.
It’s noisy. Sounds like a tractor. The turbo sounds like a jet constantly.
The wind noise is atrocious.
The interior is diabolical.
The cruise control doesn’t work well, it’s so bad I can’t even be bothered to explain.
Steering is terrible.
Gearbox is the worst I’ve ever used, ever.
It was a 71 plate, lwb. 55k miles.
Glad I’ve experienced one, as I almost considered one a while back.
Stick to transits!!!

Or as in my case a 12 plate Hyundai load. ;D

You can lease one for £239 a month, cheap as chips, now we know why.
-
Fab - van - had mine 3 years excellent workhorse
yes its no transit in repeat that the comfort level is higher but so is the price - £17k bend new when I got mine - what's the equiv tranny £40k?
It is what it is a work van - used and abused - we don't even have a motorway in Norfolk so who cares it doesn't do 110 MPH
It goes out every day - does 20 to 30 stops - the guys are in cab for what 45 minutes a day
If your single operator there maybe reasons to have all singing a dancing van but I now see huge amounts of these on the road so they are appealing to a lot of companies

Yeah for me, my van is my office and I use it for personal use, so I could not live with a Maxus.
I totally agree for staff it’s fine, as any van is.
Doesn’t change the fact it’s a terrible, terrible van in almost every way.
Transits are a rip off, that’s why I’m sticking with my 63 plate transit custom.
Engine light came on in tbr maxus on the way back from Brum. Granted it’s a hire van, so that’s not particularly surprising!

Pay for what you get.
It’s very cheaply made Chinese junk vehicle.
Great for Darran and other companies who need lots of cheap vans, but I’d bet it won’t last as long as a transit. The rust is already appearing on the side load door of the hire one.

Chinese Junk? Does it float? ;D

Hmmm, interesting. Maybe worth a punt for me, it'll be just a work van anyhow. Leaves me with more money for a luxury car.
So I won't rule it completely out when I need a new van.

the same thing was said about Japanese cars 40 years ago.........

I have a 16.5 year old VW Crafter which has done 90k miles. I look after it but the rust will kill it eventually. Starting to buy the parts on Autodoc from Germany at half price and they seem genuine.
When it comes to list price, It starts from just over £28,000 ex. VAT, so not really that cheap now. I think I will stick with another VW Crafter.
The new Transit has a plastic sump so good for short journeys but not good for long motorway journeys.
Ford is recalling certain 2023-2024 Ford Transit vehicles. An inadequate amount of rear axle lubricant may cause rear axle tail bearing damage and seizure, resulting in wheel lock-up or driveshaft separation.
Probably the reason you see some parked at side of motorway and they are nearly new.

How is your van your office? Do you sit in it of an evening doing admin.
-
In it all day. Driving to jobs. Use it for all sorts of other things outside work.
Sit in it for lunch, often do emails in it. Phone calls. Quotes. Sit in it when it’s raining at work. Watch youtube in it when having a break for expample.
It’s my workhorse, it’s my livelihood, it’s my mobile window cleaning machine!
Why would I want a a naff van for all of that?
Transits are soooo much better. I’m glad I’ve driven one, cos it’s made any future decisions simple. It’s either a transit, transporter or nothing.
-
My mate the mechanic was saying the transit and transporter have many same bits in the engine now. Looks like they are working together to cut down on costs.
Self preservation is our van in todays window cleaning game. Van or system stops working then the business stops earning. Not much can go wrong with the system so its our van we need to keep on top of. As you say, we spend alot of time in our van.
I am constantly looking at nearly new VW Crafter on the commercial website and recently there were 25 but now there is 50 MWB white vans. I think there is a massive slow down coming in the UK economy no matter who gets in so I wouldn't rush to buy a new van. When they offer 0% interest rate then we will know they are struggling to sell them. 😉

I think you made the right choice in keeping your van long term, I have owned mine from new for 18 years now. Windy's who change their van every few years are throwing money down the drain IMO.
-
None of that matters though, as long as its reliable. Its just a work van, i get it if you are a courier or something wanting to travel lots of miles in some comfort but as a window cleaner you are in and out of it every few minutes all day who cares what it drives or sounds like.

I cover a fair bit of miles and time in my van each day, I want it comfortable and well equipped. I’m in it everyday, the wife drives the car, I drive the van everywhere, i haven’t got the patience for a noisy, badly equipped plasticy van. Just not me.

Well my van is paid for, it’s an asset that costs me nothing but maintenance/services, so on that front, I’m glad I’ve kept it.
Sometimes I toy with the idea of getting a new ish custom, but I’m usually put off by the price, i mean, mine is still running great, so it’s not the time to upgrade it. There isn’t any real benefit to me yet. If I had a maxus, I’d have changed it for a transit within a week ;D

It does matter though....well at least to me.heated drivers seat, parking sensors, air con and bulkhead are a requirement.the heated windscreen is an added bonus too.....👍😃

You can get all that on a Maxus - just like yours you pay for options...
-
So long as it's got air conditioning that works and electric mirrors and is reliable, that's it!
-

It’s a shame, I wanted to like it. It looked good on the outside, but, as soon as I pulled away from hire place and changed gear, I immediately knew it was no where near the standard of a transit. The steering feel isn’t good either, one other area I forgot to mention.
It’s a cheap van, and serves a purpose if you have staff, that’s for sure.

Lots of people seem to slag off ford vans for some reason but they are decent, reliable vans,it's not uncommon to see some that are 15-20 years old still being driven every day
-
Why don’t you buy Ford cars?
I could see you in a Capri, shell suit and all.
-
I have a transit jumbo - now 13 years old - lovely drive but had its share of issues - rust has not got hold which is rare
It’s a solid driving experience but relay - boxer and maxus feel brighter and airer to drive

Cupra Formenta is my new car....love it!👍😎

Rust is not an issue anymore because all ford vans are galvanised like most vehicles these days.👍

How do you charge it from your flat Daz?

Thats because older ford vans are reliable if not rust buckets but the new ones (customs) are anything but.
Same goes for most vans tbf. The older simple diesel engines go on for hundreds of thousands, the newer vans having to comply to the latest emissions regs and pretty much all crap.
