I have a free listing it has bought in one job in 2 years. The only reason i got it was the guy had phoned the others on the list first and they were unable to do it the next day.

Hi Guys,

When I first went in Yell about 2 years ago paid for listings were in the same position as local, quite a good response. :)

Next paid for listings were moved to right hand side apart from in your immediate area , much reduced respose.  :-\

Recently Yell has allowed sponsored listings, about 2 grand cost to dominate all areas, nil response >:(

When I pointed out all this my YP rep was incredulous, but despite giving him plenty of opportunity to prove me wrong he could'nt.

So two options

Sponsored listing 2 Grand, probably good response , but only until 2 or 3 are competing.

Quit Yell and spend budget elsewhere, thats what I have done.

Cheers

Doug

Me to. binned yell this year, book, .com and 24/7 all a waste of time. the 4k i save will come in handy for something else.

Quite fancy a wee treat.

Yell could not believe i had the balls to bin them along with Thomson.  The rep as Doug said can't back up the pitch and surpisingly enough i get a new rep every year to sweep up the false promises from the previous year and who also promises to make it happen this year...............BULLS@#T.

The only response you get from them is the competition sussing you out, sales calls, window shoppers looking for a bargain or some women in distress at 11pm at night cos she has spilled wine on her new carpet and decided to clean it hersef and made it worse.

Just my personal opinion as i operate Glasgow that is saturated with CC's most of them at the £10 a carpet level.

Do local press/community tabloids in select ABC1 areas with a great response. Also have my established client base and recomends along with leaflet drops so quite happy at the moment.

Rant over...................phew. This weather is killing me, what about you guys? Im a redheaded pure white scot so we frazzle! Ha Ha

Here's a thought,if any of you wanted a tradesman ie plumber/chippy,what is the first thing you pick up,bet it is not the yellow pages.
Yell.com is ok for a bit of free advertising, but yellow pages is a total waste of time, and run by a load of eejits who can't put an ad together if they tried.
Best form of advertising-recommendation.
John.

the best form of advertising is recommendation i agree but to get to that stage you must have some sort of advertising campaign. once you are up and running then customers will do the job for you. some people have success through yp and the like and some don't . but all methods of advertising from the beginning should not be ruled out .

Yell.com has been good for me, especially since I added the weblink to it.  Had more than enough to cover it and then the referrals that have come off the back of it is where I have had most benefit.
