Title: Procedure for selling.

Curious to know what procedure others have employed or been involved with either buying or selling work.

The sale of my work has reached a 'bump in the road' shall we say. The guy buying the work wants to pay 50% in about 6 weeks time (once he's paid this sum he assumes ownership of the work and vehicle), for me to then over the period of a month show him the round and pay me 50% of the income for that period that I generate. Then once that month is over pay the balance on the outstanding and I stop working.

I've never sold work like this before, is this to be expected?

Just get it all down in writing and signed off - and that the new people own no rights to the work until FULL payment has been made

I've never passed ownership of the list of customers until full payment.
I've worked with the prospective buyer on the round but never passed it over until payment is made

Paramount advice, there is a lot at stake, make sure full payment is cleared before any official handover.

Hope it all goes well slacky, are you going to be working in Canada?

Customers of mine are going to be emigrating over there soon, their son has been there a good 10 years, so they are looking forward to being out there with him and his family. They say it’s a great environment.

I dont suppose there are any rules just what you agree to

Whilst you dont want to hand over anyhting until full payment is made its probably nerve racking handing over a wedge of money until you have the work in your hand so to speak.

When ive sold before i went round and did the first clean with the buyer then when finished knocked on the door and introduced the new cleaner or if not in posted a signed letter explaining. I then took payment off the new cleaner before he left my sight.

I've got some word documents that I drew up in 2007 when I sold some work, Purchase agreement, letter to customers, sale letter to buyer, customer list etc. if you haven't already made up your own your welcome to look over what I used back then Slacky.

Just emailed a few documents over to you Matt, very old and probably outdated, I'd obviously change the presentation now, but feel free to use anything that may be of some help.
