Thought I'd give the gas tankless system a go so purchased a secondhand unused still in box item just as proof of concept. It's one of those ebay farstar ones with a digital read out on the front. Now I've hooked everything up and put fresh batteries in, new gas cylinder and nothing lights up and no hot water... now before I junk it and buy a brand new one does anyone have any thoughts as it would be a shame to bin something that is basically brand new.

From what I remember, I think gas boilers are sensitive to water flow. Too much or too little and they won’t fire up. Can’t remember exactly.
Try adjusting your controller flow setting up and down.
I remember now …… there is a flow setting normally on the boiler itself, you need to find the sweet spot where it fires up.

Don't let the water flow stop too long or your boiler will blow the hoses and possibly the burner. Tell your insurance company in case it blows your van and writes it off, good luck with that.
I used a secondhand RODI gas heater for a few months outside of the van and one day it just blew the boiler to pieces with a big bang and destroyed the hose as well. Thank goodness I used it outside of the vehicle.

Stick it in the bin.
If you buy a brand new one out the box, also stick it in the bin. These aren’t designed for window cleaning. It’s a ticking time bomb waiting to explode with the way we use them.

Really only going to back up what's already been posted - I recall the build quality was so poor even if you got one that worked it was only a matter of a few months before soldered joints failed etc....
think safety - BIN IT!
