Title: Shortest day
Post by: NBwcs on December 21, 2023, 05:49:49 pm
Can't believe it's a year since I started last years "shortest day" thread. A day to bring a smile to anyone's face, we've turned a corner, it only gets better from now on in.

Forum pedant here. Every few years the Winter solstice falls on the 22nd December not 21st.

2023 is one of those years for the UK.

The solstice is tomorrow.

6 weeks before and 6 after Christmas are the worst.
2 weeks off over Christmas and then there’s only 4 left. 😀

Genuine nerd fact, although the 21st/22nd is officially the shortest day(for daylight), the evenings start getting more daylight from Dec 15th, but daybreak takes a little longer than the few minutes recovered in the afternoon. Which is why you will find when you return after Xmas its light at 4:30 almost immediately.  :D

Yes. And it's the opposite way round at the summer solstice.
