Title: Google ads, success rates.
Post by: zesty on November 04, 2023, 05:15:30 pm
Anyone uses Google ads with success?

The market is unbelievably saturated here, I’m thinking of Ads to help boost new work as it’s majorly slow. My area has become a Hot Bed of window cleaners. Google business pages galore, some with 100’s of reviews (clearly fake or paid for).

Door knock : offer a survey for any external cleaning service, quote and book in work.

What do you mean offer a survey?

I’m not that desperate to knock, business is still good, but i always strive to get in more work through the website and web presence.

Your website should already be in the right place if you use Google my business and have added as much content to this as you can. It's geographical so any potential customers using Google to find cleaning services that are local to where your business is listed should find you easily. Plenty of fantastic reviews, loads of lovely work photos, your phone number, address, email, link to website and regular blogs all put your presence on Google above those that don't bother.

Door knocking doesn't make you desperate - its the most effective and cheapest way to get  work

Yes that’s all stuff I do, plus the website guy does all the back linking etc. The reason enquiries have slowed down is because there are 10’s of local companies all vying for the top spots, so there is mega competition. One minute your top of the business listings, next your well down the list.

There are companies here now with over 300 reviews - clearly paid for, and perhaps putting mega money into SEO.

You have to understand just how competitive it’s become in Essex, it’s astonishing how many companies there are now.

So… with that, paying a bit for Google ads will help with web presence, but I’d like to know from others what there actual success rate is for ads..

The question was about Google ads and the success rate, not on how to door knock etc.

Darran, I built my original round via canvassing at the age of 21, I started with nothing, just an old banger and a squeegee/ladder etc. in fact my first ‘round’ i used to walk to, it was £38 I managed to canvas round my estate (I lived with my mum back then).

If I needed to, I’d go back out door knocking, but what I’m trying to achieve is better web results. Like I used to get, before it went absolutely crazy here for competition! Business is still good, the point I’m making is I want to maximise opportunities through the website and online presence, so as not to leave the website as a waste of time.

You know what they say, ‘if you ain’t the top three listings on Google, you ain’t there at all’

I haven't used adwords for years but the cost per click is based on how competitive the keywords are and how well your landing page relates to the keywords you are paying for.
There used to be a tool that would estimate the traffic from certain keywords and the likely costs. If you do setup a campaign limit the costs as they can quickly spiral. I'm not sure how well you can geographically target your ads these days, so might be worth targeting keywords that mention the location you want more work in. Like 'window cleaner in xxxx' sort of thing.

Didn’t ask for a history lesson - just pointing out door knocking in your words is “desperate”

Feel free to word on splashing out for ad’s - it’s not that effective in terms of money spent

Ive never really used google ads, used fb ads quite a lot in the past and tended to pay about £5 per lead on average.....

How are your reviews looking on the google business listing ? ive had a website years but never really bothered with it and it ranked about 6th.  Hardly got any email enquirys.

Then begining of this year i asked loads of customers to leave me a google review, i went from 3 reviews to 48  reviews and since then ive started getting website enquirys. Not many maybe 2 or 3 a month but its certainly much better than it was. My website seems to have gone to 3rd in the organic as well  doing nothing else.

Over 30 5 star reviews, I’ll try ads and see how it goes for a while.

You read that wrong Darran, I didn’t say door knocking IS desperate, I said I’m not that desperate to start door knocking I.e, I don’t need to go out and drum up work, I’m looking for work to come to me as a drip feed.

Rather than pushing website if you have that much competition and others having far more reviews and paying  to try and get more customers why not try and get existing customers to recommend you to friends and family this brings in loads of work recommended is far better than being no1 on Google rankings .

I’m not disputing that.

Its nice sitting at home and having work come in; some of my best commercial work came in through the website.

The idea is to get the online presence back on track.

Of course I could canvas, but I don’t need to. I’m solely interested in getting the enquiries back in via the website etc.

Thats the golden unicorn !

I sit at home and the work comes to me !  ::)roll

In my experience the internet/google etc.. are not suited for domestic, regular cleaning - where it works well (for me) is bespoke works and commercial stuff.

effort brings reward....

That’s what I’m after Darran, more commercial!

Well you know now  ;D

I am very commercial minded, I only have 12 days a month domestic.

Most of my best commercial has come through the website. I’m looking to increase the leads. I’m obviously happy to take on domestic as well, but it’s commercial work that I much much prefer.

I used Google Ads years ago, I think the way it now works has changed since I've used it.
It was ok; it paid for itself (just) but you have to keep an eye on your budget. I stopped using it because the quality of the leads was not brilliant and more importantly, I couldn't get the areas 'compact enough' so I was paying for leads in areas I didn't want.
If you're unsure then try it for 6 months, that's the only single way you will know if it works for you, or not.

I've had great success with Google ads over years but always found its a medium term project as opposed to short term. Short term results can be mixed from my experience but if you get ads right , keep an eye on it and adjusting can be a winner. I've got some Contracts that I've had years that I would never have heard about but for ads
