Title: Non-kink hose
Post by: Bonzer on July 25, 2006, 01:03:33 pm
I have 100m of Tricoflex but I'm finding it quite hard word pulling and reeling it in all the time.

My friend has 100m of some other 1/2" non-kink hose that is quite a bit thinner and lighter than mine. It also is smoother on the outside and seems more resistant to kinks and seems to stretch less when pulled. I don't know what it is called but does anyone know where I can get something similar?

BTW, if it helps, the colour of his hose is more orange than bright yellow like Tricoflex  ::)

if you want to stick with half inch hose try extra-flex (Arthur at surecleansystems supplies it www.surecleansystems.com (http://www.surecleansystems.com)

much better than tricoflex, lighter, more kink resistant, cheaper too.

And what a time saver.

Example, today, over a fence, round 3 corners, over another 6 foot fence & 1 more corner. i reckon 80m was out & it all rolled in on the reel 1st time. took a minute tooooo.  ;D

Thanks for the replies guys.

What are the pros and cons of using microbore? Will it work ok with my Varistream? Will the pressure still be the same out of the jets?

Microbore (on a good metal reel) pro's and con's

Pro's - lighter, easier to handle, easier to wind in - quicker all round.

Con's  - can't think of any.....

It certainly will

No. You'll have to recalibrate the Varistream, but that's quite easy. I can't find my bookmark on how to do it, but contact Williamson Pumps - they'll tell you or give you the link.

Ideally you need a pressure guage on the hose and keep turning up the inside dial till you get the pressure you need in the new hose with the end shut off. The easy way is to keep turning the dial till the spray  from the jets "feels right"

Decided not to go down the microbore route.

I am still looking for a source for the hose that my friend uses. I measured it today and found the ID to be approx 10-11mm and the outside about 17-18mm.
It is kink resistant and the inside is white plastic.

So....does anyone know where I can get this?

I've searched all the archives here on comments about microbore and although there are a good many positive comments, there are quite a few negative comments about flow rate etc. Having tried out the hose that I was describing in an earlier post, I would like to stick with that rather than jump into the unknown.

i would definately give it ago if i were you it isnt dear about £30 from gardiners and you can get a good flow rate with a 100psi pump try it and you wont go back to normal hose i havent and i dont ache as much from carting heavy hose around.

the microbore from gardiners is about 10mm external and 6mm internal

I too am looking at buying 100m of microbor. Spoke to veritech this morning and they reckon I might lose water pressur, so they said about 8mm ID. The price works out a £76.00 inc vat for 100m, and they do all the fittings for it

Thanks for the number.

Are they WFP suppliers?

Do you reckon they will do 10mm bore hose? I will ring and find out tomorrow anyway.
