Title: How’s your recovery going?
Post by: tlwcs on July 24, 2023, 03:23:07 pm
Customer texts
How’s your recovery going?
Can you take us off your round please as we’ve found someone else.

I text back
All good thanks, returning to work in August.
May I ask why?

The unbelievable reply.
Because they’ve not been cleaned since your last visit. (It was late May)

I told every customer that I would need up to 8 weeks off after a hip replacement but depending on where they fell in my 6 weekly cycle, it could be up to 13 weeks.
I’ve blocked her.
Shame as they were good custards.
I know I don’t own them and guessed I might lose some but finding this one hard to stomach
Onwards and upwards 😁

Don’t block them. Let them contact you when their new cleaner lets them down. Then you can deal with the situation as you prefer and not in frustration.

Fair point.

I can't believe they asked how your recovery is going! And then dumped you!

I’ve never kidded myself that my customers love me. That’s why I don’t have time for most of them. It’s just a mutual business arrangement.

Exactly how I see it for myself  as well.

Yep customers are not your friends.

When ive done prices roses before I've always been shocked at some that have dropped me over a quid.

One I had 7 years and hadn't put the price up as I was already a decent priced front only dropped me from  going from £8 to £9.

Came across as a lovely old lady turned out to be a horrible tight old hag  ;D

Customers never cease to amaze me; if I woke up one morning with my hair sewn into the carpet, I would be no more surprised!

that is pretty shocking.... I wonder if they told the new cleaner....
if i was the new cleaner , I would have red flags before my eyes.

I lost a customer last week that I have had since my daughter was a toddler, all because of a small rise ( not gone up in 5 years)
my daughter is 27 next month ;D

zero loyalty.... im looking forward to when they call me in the future......

Customer loyalty is a thing of the past. Not just for us but everywhere.

Not surprising really when you think about it. The price of everything is going through the roof. How many suppliers/trades/companies are you loyal to? I have a couple but if someone comes along with the same service at a much lower cost I'm not going to pretend I wouldn't be tempted.

Binning someone off because they're unwell etc is pretty low though.

Don't tar every customer with the same brush.

Most will not dump you for someone else while your recovering.in fact I can't recall any customer dumping me because I was ill/injured in 30 years of window cleaning.

Most customers are loyal and understanding

Most customer's are loyal by virtue of the fact that finding a reliable window cleaner these days is difficult.
I have to keep my phone turned  off due to the volume of calls I get from people wanting their windows cleaned.
I used to pass on customer enquiries to other window cleaners but I had to stop this practice due to a couple of unfortunate incidents involving dishonesty by cleaners I had recommended.
Since then i just stick to my regulars.

Thankfully i still think the vast  majority of long standing customers are loyal but i think that loyalty is much harder to establish with newer work. Part of that i believe is that window cleaning has cleaned up its image a hell of a lot since i started 19 yrs ago. Lets be honest, back in the day we were considered as a dodgy lot, cash in hand, scruffy, ladders on the roof of a knackered out car, ex cons, etc not particularly well thought of at all so when we had gained a customers trust, they wanted to keep us as they were a bit concerned who the alternative might be. These days, its sign written vans, uptodate wfp techniques  , uniforms etc and we're seen as a much more professional profession. As such, price becomes more relevant, people more happy than they used to be to change wc. Just shows what a load of gonads perception is as the same dodgy people cleaning windows 20yrs ago are still doing it now but just look a bit smarter and probably still as dodgy.  When i think back over the years, the most untrustworthy outfits locally had the newest and smartest vans etc  :)
