There are flying ants, I dont know the technical term for them but they seem to appear through July and August, I presume they share the nest with ordinary ants, as for treating them I remember as a 6 year old a mixture of my mums hairspray and vinegar did the trick down the bottom of the garden but I'm sure theres probably something a bit more advanced on the market nowadays, Andy  ;D

yes flying ants are prevalent this time of year if you catch them flying out of the nest you will see hoards of birds flying in circles eating them

Can I suggest if you've got a big problem with the flying ants you set a tapir loose in the room, they can eat about 20lb's a day, Andy

Flying ants mate at this time of year in during flight and they tend to die off within a few days so constantly breeding is limited.

I have found in the past that Jeyes fluid mixed 3 parts water to 1 part jeyes in a spray bottle works, but not on carpeted area for obvious reasons.
