Don’t take it personally 99% it’s not down to you as the cleaner why not just say we can’t afford it we will contact you in the future when we can.
8 weekly as well 3-4 cleans is usually the last fence you have to jump before they come on board long term, don’t lose any sleep like I say imo probably not down to you.
-
Just felt really offended as after first clean he said how pleased he was ,as previous owner hadn’t had them cleaned in 3 years,I know as I did them! There the old painted wooden windows ..long long time since I had a complaint, and a bit paranoid as it’s in the middle of 3 others I have been doing for 12 years😡..
-
Some people want the windows cleaning but they don’t want a regular thing I can see things going more this way in the future,as you probably know half the battle is sussing them out initially over the years I’ve got quiet good at this.
-
New customers get charged double if windows haven't been cleaned in years to cover extra time required. It's a good way to weed out some one off customers.
Not all customers are honest, some will pull the wool over your eyes to get a once, twice, thrice clean and abandon your cleaning service until the following year or someone cheaper comes along, that's why it's best to weed out PITA customers and leave them to someone else to be deceptive.

Let it go, don’t beat yourself up.
Most buyers are liars and will rarely tell you the real reason..
Moving foreword work around his house, be pleasant when you see him and one day when he asks you back, which most do, you can tell him he’s a messer or charge him £5 more than the neighbours.
You’ve got loads of great customers.

spend a day feeling annoyed.. then move on. ;D
the part that would annoy me the most was the implication that the windows were probably missed.
He may not be lying about cobwebs.... this time of year there is lots of fluffy stuff coming off a certain tree that could be mistaken as cobwebs.... i did one yesterday , and by tonight it will probably be covered again.
however in this case he is looking for an excuse as he cant afford you
I got rid of a repeated late payer this week . his pompous attitude annoyed me also.
I do 6 of his neighbours.
It sure does feel good and enjoyed telling him politely why ;D
He responded in a rude way .
during that same afternoon I picked up 2 render cleaning jobs, a fsg and conny foof , and a new 8 weekly...
which is worth about 3 years of cleaning his windows and chasing him for money.
move on and push forward ;D
-
The real reason is he is over committed financially.
-
Exactly.

Like the customer who cancelled us years ago because we left a streak on his lounge bay window 2 cleans previously.
When we collected a couple of days after the clean, that window was visible as we waited for him to answer the door, and we didn't see any streak.
Turns out him and his wife split up, and she asked us to clean the windows of the house she moved to. He didn't want us reporting back to her what he was doing.
-
Yes you'll come across a few liars. I've been back to a few and not being able to find anything wrong.
Genuine decent customers will inform you if you've missed something and give you a chance to rectify. Imagine you wanted your windows cleaning and had regular cleaner for years all of a sudden he misses a bit would you dump him or let him know ? You have to be a bit of a bell end to sack him off over a mistake, just think who wants these customers...
Those looking for a way to cancel will either cancel over a single cobweb or just simply lie about something you've done.

Your honesty and fairness forced him into the honesty of his second text.
You might feel he's had one over one you but you handled it well and I bet he needs you more than you need him.
Let it go but remember it if he approaches you again.

I find most of the younger customers under the age of about 40 a waste of time.
-
He sounds like your typical 1 off time waster, move on and next time if he asks you to clean them triple the price.
some years back I had a customer that cancelled saying there was a smear on the window, as it happens I was passing their house on my way home so I knocked and asked to take a look, they let me in the house and showed me the said window and then using my fingers I rubbed the said mark which obviously worse made it a lot worse as it was inside and not out, suffice to say I did not bother going back after that LOL

Couldn’t have said it better.

Young professional families are fine as a rule.

That's why i said "most" ;)

unfortunately some people would rather offend you than be honest about their motives, they obviously feel some sort of shame in owning up to their financial situation. I had a woman get rid of me because she claimed i was coming more regularly than i should, i was fuming as its questioning my honesty. Stupid of her as well, dates are and were easily proved. She had already replaced me with a cheaper wc anyway and was too far up her own backside to apologise. I cant be doing with idiots, if she'd just been honest i would have totally understood, instead she finds it acceptable to make crap up and cast aspersions over me and got a confrontation for her actions.
If its not long since you cleaned them Andy , go back and have a look and make them squirm.

Don't take it personally mate.
Times are difficult for people and they may not want to admit it.
Keep calm and carry on. ;D

If any customer doesn’t let you return and put things right it’s just plain 💩 I’ve got mega mega rich, super rich and people that thing their rich, the last are the worst because they always have to save face the Jones’s aren’t allowed to know you see. Never had a problem with people that can back up the house and cars,it’s the fools that have more tick than the Amazon that always give grief.
-
It is truly sad that some customers are having to find excuses or reasons to get rid of the window cleaner because they can't face telling him that they can no longer afford the service or need to cut back. For some people who are proud, it must be tough to even face this reality that you are basically skint. It's probably easier in your mind to convince yourself that the reason you are getting rid of the window cleaner is because he's not doing the job as well as he used to or another excuse. I wonder if they actually believe in their own head that this is the primary reason they are dumping the window cleaner over the actual reality that they are broke and debted up to their eye balls.
Its sad really.
