Title: Gardiners Backpack Battery Question
Post by: Bungle on May 04, 2023, 08:17:11 pm
I think I've left my backpack turned on by mistake. I needed it for a job today and all I got was a very faint squealing noise. I've had it on charge for 4 hours now and no change. Charging light goes out when plugged in. Green light is lit when unplugged.

Has anyone had the same problem and managed to retrieve the battery?

The standard charger that comes with the backpack is crap and very slow , i charge mine with a ctek smart charger , if you have one just cut the plug off the gardiner charger and make a flylead for your smart charger .

Sounds like wiring to battery has come loose, charger should turn to red when charging.

I had similar issue.

Ended up taking it apart and found a live wire hanging loose.    Used the wiring diagram on Gardeners website, quick soldering job and all was fixed.

I'll take it apart over the weekend. Thought I'd cooked the battery but hopefully not.

Fixed it. It was the pump that had corroded. I gave it a squirt with WD-40, gave the fan blades a few turns and hey presto.

FAO Alex Gardiner. I see you have no pumps in stock. Are you expecting any?

The black things with a fin that spin round in the pump. Can't think of any other way of describing it.

My pump packed up about 6 weeks ago, it switched on and made noise but nothing more than a trickle of water would be pumped from it, maybe it was corroded like you've experienced ?...anyhow I found a yt video of replacing the pump for a Gardiner's backpack as like you found they had none in stock. I ordered one from DA components as was recommended as a straight replacement because it has same flow direction. Bonus is it's also chemical resistant too. Cost me £45 with vat and shipping.

Mine was making a high pitched noise when turned on. No flow at all. I thought the battery was dead so I put a multimeter on it and it was over 12v. I put my ear to the noise and could tell it was the pump. Took it apart and it was corroded.

I saved myself at least £23 NWH 👍
