Title: Pc died - George help please 🙏🏻
Post by: lee_dewing on May 04, 2023, 10:58:32 am
Hello everyone
My windows pc tablet died this morning

So need to load George onto daughter’s laptop

And hopefully use self email’d backup file
I saved last week

A refresher course would be very helpful
Many thanks

Ps
Currently the tablet says out of memory
Reload windows losing everything I think 🤔

There is an option to use a usb stick
Which I have to do some sort of recovery

Any advice greatly appreciated

I can see how this bank holiday is going 😢

Thanks

I think there are several threads at the top of the screen Lee - have a quick look - im sure they deal with every possibility that affects George

Thanks very much

Once I’d took a deep breath

I’ve now ordered a pc windows tablet running 10.5 windows

£159.99 not cheap or dear I suppose

I did email a backup file which was a great tip from one of you fellows 👍

New tablet shows up today

Hoping 🙏🏻🙏🏻

New tablet shows today and all works runs George backup file works

Job done

Then muck about with old tablet
Salvage anything if it will let me

George files are only thing that interest me

Old tablet was 8 years old I think 🤔 £90

Yea they deliberately don't make them to last long anymore.

I still use my ZX Spectrum for my book keeping.   Been going for 40 years.😂😂

Haha , yes I have one of those.  On a serious note. That's my side hobby refurbishing old 8 bit machines.  I have a fair few Spectrums about.

Well we now have a brand new Sinclair machine that's been designed.  Just Google the ZX Spectrum Next.

I get mine in July after a 2 year wait.

All back up and running 👍

Used sticky threads
Used link to George systems >

Downloaded trial George program >

Then downloaded George fix app and George restore app>

Dropped backup file on restore app and then opened George program everything there 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Thanks again Jester of wibbly
For links to everything George systems 👍👍

And moderators for sticky links 👍

Only thing backup file was 2 weeks old
So had nearly 10 days of work to fill in from memory 😢🤣🤣

I have backed up on usb stick now geo files

Also on jobs screen I have taken pictures of
Customers on smartphone

So not as perfect as writing out a page for every customer which I might do at a later date

But at least I think I’ve covered my ar5e a lot better than before 🤔

So will George work on Windows 11 and onwards?

Or will it finally die 😢

What will George users do?

Pen and paper?
Pay monthly apps cleaner planner, squeegee?
Some sort of pc workaround database program?🤔

Thanks

Jester of wibbly

I started home pc life out on a Commodore Vic 20

If only my dad had not got me that for Christmas that year 😀

As following year all my mates had Commodore 64’s. 😢

I then got spectrum xl
Sure it was called
Proper keyboard and built in keyboard

I use to rent games by post
Got very good at tape to tape recording games and logging counter numbers on pc cassette deck

Had loads of games on one cassette 👍👍
Swapped and copied mates too 🤣

When I started working in 1987 I bought a commodore Amiga fantastic pc 😀

Was that cartridge as well as cassette?

Just remembered I had an Atari 800 XL
Before Amiga
That was cartridge and cassette

And before it all had a binotone console (spelling)
The bat and ball game
Followed by the Atari game console

Spent too much time in arcades as a kid too🤣

Keep thinking of buying the Xbox series s
With games pass

I think I had a mega drive too 🤣in my past

If you enjoy retro games like me, you'll love the MiSTer FPGA systems.

Yes will work on windows 11 if you opt out of S mode.

For backups , just use windows OneDrive to auto back up to.  Then u have access to it from any computer without worry.

You can also convert your whole database to Excel too for a full list of contracts.
