Just wondered if anyone on here has a franchise with this company and if so what is your experience with it so far.
-
Are you interested in buying a franchise or just interested in how they operate ?
There marketting is slick I will say that I get an email from them every month and they seem to be a professional outfit that's growing fast.
-
Interested to see how they operate and if anyone on here has bought into one. I remember a few years ago Duncan Banatyne from Dragons Den had a similar platform but I think they went out of business eventually.
The other reason is that at the moment I have two full time employee's plus myself that does two days a week but eventually probably next year I was intending on retiring myself and just living off what the business brings in then when my time is done to hand over reigns to my son in law or sell independently but invest in a franchise like this for extra security for my son in law.
-
I think the general opinion of people with multiple vans is that employing is the better way to go due to having far more control overall.
-
I wouldn't say that - those on here who franchise are doing just as well as those with employed multi vans
Its what will suit you best

I offer lead generation services to a good amount of window cleaners and you would be surprised how many are either under a franchise or have franchised out their own company. Whether they have top branding like mywindowcleaner or tidal cleaning etc, or just a standard franchise with basic branding they all still make good money. I work with a few companies that have 5+ franchisees and all make good money tbh.

How do you know they make good money, you doing their end of year accounting too?

Why would your son in law want to hand over a franchise fee vs inheriting a big round. There's nothing more secure than having your own business. It's much more secure than having a job or having a franchise. Contracts can be terminated.

Am I missing something here? You are already established and have two full time employees plus yourself, so I’m assuming you have plenty of work. Why on earth would you want to pump money into buying a franchise when you already have the work right there in front of you?

Retirement?
I think he thinks it's less hands on. I've no idea whether it is or not.

No lol. The ones i have dealt with though have given me figures in detail as i was considering franchising our business out a few years ago and i did extensive research and planning at the time. Obviously not every business/franchise is going to make good money just the same as window cleaning businesses throughout the uk, but the ones i have worked with definitely are doing well. I know a few franchisees that are doing 5k turnover+ per month up north with a 15% franchise fee to the franchisor. Minus vehicle purchase and day to day operating costs that is still a good income for somebody who wants their own business but would prefer to have a companies backing to ensure their success and to help them deal with any issues that otherwise would take years of a learning curve to achieve. Also some of the franchise companies i work with provide all of the customers to the franchisee without any marketing fees at all. For some people this is ideal, and better than trying to build your own 5k a month round from scratch especially if you are new and have no clue what you are doing to start with.

Are these the people that have ‘FREE FIRST CLEAN’ splattered all over their vans?
If so then I’ve I’ve no idea how they are doing financially, but the franchisee near me looks positively miserable and he’s always rushing around.
It’s a no from me!

No that's uk window clean.
And they are mostly employed not franchisees.
They are a splash and dash brigade with low paid workers. I've spoke to a couple of their ex employees.

I was thinking more like added costs like advertising etc. Does a franchise pay there own advertising costs etc or is this included in the franchise fee? I'm asking because the My Window Cleaner one has got expensive half/full page adverts in our local papers and magazines etc. If this is incorporated in the fee's then I can see the value of having a franchise.
-
I would say that comes down to the T&C's - and how big a cut the franchise takes offset against what they promise to do in advertising and how the areas are divided up

i'm pretty certain that with the My Window Cleaner franchise a set amount of work is provided to you, but in order to build you're round fully you then have to pay towards advertising/marketing to get more customers.
I don't know the exact specifics but i've had 3 of their franchisees enquire with me in the past to use me for lead gen at their own expense.
Not all franchises operate this way though.
I work with a franchise that pays for all advertising costs to gain customers, and just hands over a fully built round to the franchisee or builds it up for them without charging them any extra at all.
So for that reason certain franchises are definitely going to be better to work with than others for sure.

Theres a few that provide work
I spoke to tidal window cleaning once about buying one of theire franchises (just digging for info when i was considering franchinsing) and they wanted in the region of 17k with no work provided by them... they "show" you how to generate your own work. If you dont have 17k ? no problem they recommend you take out a loan (i think princes trusts? ) to cover the cost :-X
Not quite sure how they sell them but they obviously do

That sort of defeats the whole object of being a franchisee you might just as well set up on your own in the first place without any royalties , then everything is 100% yours .

I think to some it appeals because it feels "secure" having someone to hold your hand almost
Just look at the OP hes considering a franchise even though he has a business already ??? obviously drawn in by the marketting and the illusion of security...just goes to show these things do appeal to some. Not everyone is cut out to go it alone.

There's loads of window cleaning franchises these days.i know a guy who I went to school with bought into one a few years ago he seems happy enough.he only has to stump up 10% of his turnover to his boss.
He earns around the same as me but has to work full time instead of part-time hours

I think he did say once that being part time and doing full time money he gets to have top-notch holidays too.
