Has happened a couple of times in my experience. Cleaning a carpet tomorrow that had marks appear after they bought it. I cleaned it about a year ago and they came back. She had it cleaned with a dry system and they came back again. I'm going back again tomorrow to clean it. Any ideas on what has happened to this carpet before it left the manufacturers to cause this problem.

Hi chris
some years ago Iwas called to a simillar problem. It was a wooven wool carpet and what had happened
was that during the manufacturing process oil from the looms had periodically dripped onto the carpet leaving a residue which of course did`nt show up until it had been fitted and walked on for a time. The telltale signs for this problem was that the marks were in a straight line.Sprinkle finedust from your hoover over the area, walk on it once, then vacume thoroughly, you`ll be left with clearly defined residue
patches which you can then tackle. Then again the spots could be all over the place,in which case this has been a complete waste of time, but ;D ;D ;D

yes i have heard of this problem in fact i think it was pointed out on my training course

I thought maybe that was the reason. Even if the spots are random I think it sounds a good explanation.
Thanx

Had carpet replaced in our lounge for the same reason oil marks appeared and the manufacturer replaced it
