Post by: deeege on December 07, 2022, 06:32:57 pm
So when are we all finishing for Xmas this year?

I’ll work half day on Friday 23rd Dec then off until 3rd Jan.   ;D

Must admit I’m looking forward to a decent break this year.

If it doesn’t snow ⛄️
Or pi55ing down then Friday 23rd 3pm ish

Back on Jan 3rd or 4th
Winter 🥶 always seems to throw a curve ball

Roll on March 👍

I’ve been quite busy with gutter work on weekends 🍂

Done Saturday and Sunday a few weeks ago
The good old weather gave me a day off the following week ☔️

Try to enjoy the break more been saving up 👍

Last jan15 th ended up in hospital over night with vertigo
Was in house on my own and thought I was having a stroke 🤦‍♂️

In corridor of hospital on a drip all night

What a mess our poor hospitals are🥲

2 weeks off work

Shaking like a jelly going onto my first flat roof 😁

We all get problems

Need to enjoy life a bit more⛄️

Have a great Christmas you lot
Hope the tips come flooding

My Xmas tips seem set to trickle this year
😆🥳🎄

Same Daz, probably more £  actually. I don’t usually stress about missed work, it doesn’t usually happen, but the forecast  -10°c  may mess up this  Xmas.

The run up to xmas is really the only time i ever put any pressure on myself (and i use the term lightly) in this job. No body died from dirty windows so it really doesnt matter but its just that satisfying feeling of everything being finished and done so as you can go into the break completely free. Looking at the the forecast , its not going to happen, but i'll crack on ,chuck some salt about and give  it a real good go. I am soooooo ready for a break.

I thought times like this are what your slush fund is for. Using your slush so you don't have to go out in the slush. Or worse.

True and i would hope most of us would be ok having a few weeks off financially but its gutting having to spend savings having time off that you don't want to have.

There's a satisfaction in getting all your work done and enjoying a week off at Christmas.

Going  to be tough next week, Mon and tue doesn't even get above freezing here all day
Title: Re: Annual finishing for Christmas Thread 2022

It's more gutting not having a slush fund or being involved in an avoidable accident.

There will be millions of cars on the road of course there's more chance of an accident but I won't live my life worrying about that. Drive carefull and hope for the best. Or curl up in a ball and blow you slush fund  ;D

Hope you are right Daz. I use the Dark Sky app, says Friday as low as -10 overnight and -5 during day. Vans all filled ready to go tomorrow anyway so I’ll do my best all week.

What's your slush fund for then? I can't see the point in having a slush fund that you won't touch.
I'm not saying you shouldn't work. We might differ on what is workable though. Having work that needs doing and missing out on tips shouldn't be that much of a factor.

It was minus 10 in the day time in 2010 for 2 weeks odd that's what a slush fund is for not 0 to minus 1 ;D

I agree that 0 and -1 could well be workable. It might be less workable when there's already snow on the ground though. When that becomes compacted and freezes it can be treacherous.
Conditions could be very different for many of us, even in same parts of the country. I think the conditions are more important than scheduled work and Christmas tips though.

For me a slush fund is for when you can't work not you maybe could if you tried but you'd rather not.

If you literally can't work then you can't work so use you emergency funds  but if you can you are wasting money. I'd rather keep that money for a real emergency or at least something enjoyable like a holiday not giving in and watching loose women.  ;D

I'm not giving in because I don't know what the weather will be like yet. I'm not saying I'm going to work because I've got two weeks scheduled work and tips to lose either.
I'm not saying I'm going to spend my slush fund or that I'm not going to spend my slush fund yet.

I have just over £20k in my slush fund and the rest in a few other accounts....its there for emergencies(if I'm ill or suffering from an injury etc).I'm also adding to it every month too.

I like to get out most days and work.....5 or so  hours in the fresh air beats sitting in all day watching TV IMO...I only do that occasionally on a Sunday or if I'm ill....certainly not because of a bit of cold weather!

I didn't realise we were talking about a bit of cold weather. A bit of cold weather shouldn't interrupt your scheduled work and Christmas tips that you are expecting.
If the forecast is for a bit of cold weather, we should all be able to work and I'll have to record Loose Women.

Obviously if its thick snow and ice I'd give it a miss as the real danger is crashing the van or getting stuck somewhere with half a ton of water in the back.

If I lived and worked in a hilly, rural area I'd also be sacking it off but where I am it's a bit of cold weather

After i had said i would do them he said oh thanks someone has egged my front windows,   :-X    got myself into that one.

I'm going to work tomorrow, then have Christmas Eve off.
Mrs window cleaner is back to work on the Wednesday, (retail), so I may work the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; see how I feel.
I've got 2 weeks off in January (we normally go abroad and enjoy the sun) but we've recently got an English Bulldog puppy that Mrs window cleaner set her heart on and I agreed to (because I didn't think it through!).
So she's now booked a 3 night break in Devon in a 'pet friendly' pub with breakfast included.
Now I'm wondering how 'pet friendly' this pub is, because my dog can eat a lot of sausages for breakfast!
Oh well, suntans never suited me anyway!
