Title: What size and type is your everyday pole on domestic work - and why?
Post by: AuRavelling79 on October 04, 2022, 04:33:22 pm
I use an Extreme "20" - yes I know that they aren't listed by Gardiners - but this is the best one for me getting a cross between lightness and length.

I also carry an Extreme 25 and an Extreme 47 (which is now about an Extreme 44 due to breakages  ;D)

SLX 25 for everyday use and a mix between an Extreme and SLX 55, of which I have 2. One for windows and the other for roofs/solar panels.

Are you trying to set a record for the longest title? 😀

Ova-8 - 24 ft - good all round pole - tough and not too heavy and will reach 3rd storey windows - allows the guys to clean 99% of the work without faffing to another pole - essential when employing 😆

A pair of SLX-22, one with an extension.

Does nearly everything.

Extreme 18 for 95% with an slx extension to 25 when needed.
I stopped doing anything really high a couple of years ago.

Slx 25 for everything, I recently bought an slx 22 but it’s a pain swapping it every other job back to the slx 25 because it’s too short! I have a lot of houses with conservatory’s , orangerys , extensions & 3 storey work mixed in with bungalows and your regular semis .

Slx 18 for 70%
Slx 25 and a extreme 44 for the rest
Just grab the one you need no faff

SLX 35 for me. I know you aren't supposed to but I just pull out the minimum number of sections I'll need, so sometimes its a 15', 20', 25', 30' or 35' !

Might try a SLX 27 next time, I much prefer the shorter sections.

SLX22 for me...

I used to use the 25 but the 22 gets to 95% of my work and i much prefer the shorter closed length and its a bit lighter.

18ft nano covers 95% of my round so ergonomically seems daft to carry anything bigger. 30ft slx takes care of the rest.

Good question!

Each of my vans has the following three poles:

SLX18 - everyday pole
SLX25 - town houses and over conservatory
SLX39 - roof skylights and solar panels

Some of the guys use the SLX25 as the everyday pole, but I prefer them to use the SLX18 if possible as its less draining on the body

Extreme 30’

It’s actually a 25’ xtreme with an SLX extension section.

Xtreme 47 reduced down to 3 sections for standard houses, adding sections as and when needed depending on height.

The last pole I bought was a clx4
Got it to do some ground floor work.
How easy would it be if I only needed this pole for 95% of my work  :D

Extreme 25 for everything,  and my wife uses a slx18.

Then I’ve got an extreme 47 for the odd high stuff.

Can I ask how you make up an extreme 20? Does it still have the insulated base section etc?  This would be great to replace my wife’s slx18 to be honest.

You buy the top four sections of an Extreme 25 (Or buy an extreme 25 and put the widest section to one side) and I am happy to spray section 4 with lacquer and use it.

Alternatively buy the top three sections of an extreme 25, then take your wife's SLX18 bottom section, wash it out, buy a new clamp for it and you would have a 19ft 6" pole. (three extreme 25 sections and an slx 18 bottom section.)

The top sections would 'stick out' of the bottom section but it will be no longer than a 25ft Gardiner pole when collapsed.

Fire an email to Gardiner's and Alex will advise.

In fact my bottom section 4 has so far had three lots of 3 extreme 25 top sections added to it with a new bottom clamp each time over the years and it works really well.

An slx/extreme 18 end cap will fit.

Edit: The three sections I replace (usually when one snaps after a couple of years are usually OK for occasional use and I use them as the top three sections of my extreme 47 when they finally give up.)  :D

Used to be slx25 but for last few years slx22, I find shorter collapsed length notably easier and it does the vast majority of my work.

Made the 25 into slx30 which occasionally gets used.

After a recent shoulder injury I've made some changes to the way I work

I use a clx 18 for 90% of my work and a 35 titan For the rest.

I have the clx because I like the flex it has over the slx and it doesn't give you black hands like the carbon poles

18ft on one reel, 25ft on the other and choose the tool for each job. 80 percent of the time it's the 18.

I also carry a 35 that I use about 4 times a month, I really should just dump them jobs but they are well priced and good payers.

25ft nano pole does most of my work and an xtreme 47 for the rest...that's it.

Eventually I'll get rid of the higher work and a 25 footer will clean all my work until retirement.

Ionics ergolite 72 does everything for me.

Not really. For window cleaning it’s a 7 section clx. Don’t know how long it is, maybe 30’

1x Extreme 22
1x Extreme 35
The first pole gets used 75% of the time.

I only use the 35 for the windows the 18 can't reach.

As for gloves I can't get on with wearing gloves unless they are massive Stanley waterproof ones

I never used to wear gloves but these days  i couldnt do without them, how many times have you reeled in and had a waft of dog turd. In winter its even worse, wet, muddy pooey pole hose. At least twice today ive been glad of gloves.

SLX45 - roof skylights and solar panels
I used to use a clx22 then bought slx25 for slightly higher jobs. I found I just automatically reached for the slx over the clx, eventually bought a slx22 as every day pole, which I find notably superior to the equivalent clx.

SLX22.

Why? because I'm 6ft3 so I can do all but the most extreme of my work with it. For that there's the SLX35.
