Forget covid. If you were to start again knowing what you know now what would you do differently

I'd move to Manchester, work part time, set new records every week, play the drums and have lots of sex. :)

Nothing......the last 29 years of window cleaning has been a journey,I've made mistakes but it's the only way ive learnt to manage my business differently......
One thing I will say always refuse to clean inside windows if they smoke!😄

Things I do differently since I started:
1. I was going to employ. I franchise
2. Reels now mounted in van rather than removable
3. Van setups supplier changed. Twice.
4. Poles: now hoseless
5. Brushes: Changed a dozen times till I settled
6. Brushes: A kick up the backside made me try swivels
7. Rinse brush on not off
8. No longer clear gutters (that was, in total, a £6,000 mistake)
9. Flow rate now around 3x what I started with. Uses a great deal less water overall.
10. Direct Debit now the preferred payment method
11. Started with plenty of messers. I can now spot a messer at 400 yards
12. You can't build a round with leaflets (apparently)
13. Worked off van batteries. Now split charge.
14. I identified the gobby liars on here.
15. I now ignore 60% of the advice on here. Including this.

Couldn't agree more about nicotine stained windows, filthy horrible jobs. I'd also throw in the ring windows with those stupid stick on bars.

What happened Vin?
Bought gear, generator, big leaflet campaign.
Then I realised that vacuuming gutters without ever having the backup of ladders (which I never use) was just a ballache. Gutter swan necks popping off, same full of packed gunk, blocked downpipes, gutters with mesh interwoven into the gunk, constantly blocking hoses, heavy tubes on my old shoulders.
That was when I did the maths and realised that our best hourly rate by far is cleaning the vertical glass on houses. And nothing matters apart from that.
Sold the kit, moved on.
The saying has it that experience is cheap at any price and even here I agree. We now stick to what earns us the most.

Found exactly the same. Physically demanding too.

I agree Vin most of the time the houses or properties that will earn you the most money the tools don’t fit in the gutters, the average house with a standard PVC gutter maybe but they don’t earn the coinage you want for working in the peeing rain.
I priced a massive job once a domestic property when I got there and setup none of the tools I had fitted in the gutters 😂,I had to use a ladder and always did when doing gutters at some point during the job. It’s a rainy day dirty job lugging that drum about I pass em on now most of the time.
