ive decided to put some of my prices up. after a big think about losing any customers and everything else going up i thought ill do it regardless. £10 houses now £12 quite a few. and £1/£2 added to other houses i thought i would have had a few cancelling but to my surprise all payments come through with no moans.
i did feel guilty but it has to happen
glad i did it. gradually i tested it out on a few . now my new price is better than before.
they probably realise they wont get anyone supplying a better service than i do.
happy days
-
I was the same but you’ve got to make the numbers work for you - put 100 customers up £2 and lose 10% then your still up.
-
I have been doing the same....
I had one bloke moan i put his £700k house up by £5....the rest have been fine..
I've had quite a few put the price up themselves too , which is nice :)
-
You’ll always get a mixed reaction, I had 3 cancel out of 50 . Iv had some Customers not reply but paid the new amount , some telling me I should of put them up last year, some asking me if it’s the same price. One woman actually said to me have you put your prices up yet? Her house is very well priced but has been 3 years , I said I’m half way through doing them , she said it’s fine everyone expects it , just let me know how much 👌.
One firefighter asked me if I do emergency services discount after I put hers up £2 , when I said I don’t , she said will you include my fascias then … I said no 😂, she then paid the new amount. It’s a gamble but if your full then you can afford to risk it
Still need to do some more yet…
-
i think most decent long term customers are expecting us to put our prices up unless some already do over charge then these may loose customers. Would you pay your price to get your windows cleaned on your house.. i had a customer i havent seen for months. i didnt give up looking for my payment. Caught up and she was ok paying me £60 it would break my heart to pay that out haha
-
I've not put my prices up for a few years even through the pandemic.. I'm waiting for the other energy price rise what's coming .I'll take the opertunity and go out canvassing. see what happens my thought is I may get a few jobs if people are paying daft prices
-
I think you have to literally everything has gone up.
I need to finish putting my prices up I put all my £10 jobs up to £12 (about 100 jobs).
I need to do the rest although I put a lot up £1 just last year. Going to start at the other end and put biggest/most awkward/ones I least like doing up next and then the cream what's left might get a blanket £1/£2 rise depending on what reaction I have.
-
Iv still not finished putting mine up 🤦♂️,
I started out good putting £15 jobs up £2 then when I got to the £30-£50 jobs I kinda stopped 🫤. For some reason I feel bad putting up a £40 job £3 but not a £15 up £2 🤔.
Just did a fascia job for a customer, old lady in a 3 bed semi - said she’s paid £140 for gas/elec for years. Octopus just notified her that her bills going up to £274 a month 🤯
-
I have given serious thought about some increases ...but I’m going to hang fire, there is going to be some mega fallout come October,November...and in my mind I’m thinking 🤔 just keep the custom if and when it blows over (inflation)..then I can reassess...I’ve already had 3 cancel recently and quote them...’my gas and electric has doubled..windows are a luxury I can no longer afford..🥴

There will be 3 more wanting them cleaned soon , don't worry ;)
-
I didn't put prices up in the pandemic. Energy bills and diesel took a dive. Now they have rocketed past 2019/20 prices so my prices are going up.
Simples.
-
I've had 2 customers actually put the price up themselves this week. A £20 up to £22 and a £15 up to £20. I've put quite a few up over the last few months. Mostly I've added £2. Any more and people might start to think about whether they'll continue the service. I haven't lost a single customer from the price rise. I have lost one customer this week due to the husband losing his job and I've gained one job.
I say if you're apprehensive about putting your prices up try a handful at a time.
The 💩 might hit the fan come the winter though 🤷♂️
-
I think if we wait for the right time to increase prices it will never come , then the amount they need to go up will be very difficult to implement, I started putting up our prices in February, still going lost one job so far and 3 have gone to 8 weekly out of over 1500 jobs , I have had a lot asking if we are putting up prices so it’s come from them not us , several have increased payments themselves more than I would have put them up with an increase.
-
I think il do the last lot this month then see what happens, the gutter/fascia/con roof jobs are coming in thick and fast though. I actually prefer these add on /one off jobs to normal windows.
-
I keep a spreadsheet of all prices and when they were increased, and look at it every month.
As soon as a customer goes over the 12 month mark, they get a price rise of inflation (rounded UP to the nearest £1) plus I use that opportunity to correct any underpricing.
If you don't raise your prices every year, it's the same as a paycut.
This year price rises have gone down better than previous years, as everyone is expecting them. The price of everything is going up sharply, so they understand.

Given the ridiculous increase amounts being talked about for October and the Tories desperate need to get back into peoples good books following the shambles Boris has made regarding pr, then surely we'll be seeing alot more help coming with the energy bills on top of what's already been announced. That would help a great deal when thinking of when to put them up. With the latest hike just being announced, its all a bit raw and a risky time to be doing it,

As I said earlier there will never be a good time to put up prices so just as well bite the bullet now , otherwise we will be left behind .

Your post should be printed out and stuck to the mirror of everyone's van.

Mine went up during lockdown when alot on here didn't, I'll wait till next year as originally planned.
-
I don’t think it’ll make much difference if you’re going in their eyes you’re going up a few quid or not.
-
I am still taking on work even though I am nearly always behind. I have started to put prices up where I feel the need to.
as it stands now , without a price rise , I will be having to work an extra 2 hours a week to cover the increase that's ahead .
considering I normally work an average of about 25 to 28 hours a week , its not that daunting.
so for me it will be price rises first and a mixture of may be squeezing out 1 or 2 extra jobs some days .
-
I've slowly been putting prices up on work. Take a look around, everything is going up constantly, can't afford to stand still and do nothing for too long, what will be will be.
-
April next year I'll put most of my work up.....
I put most of mine up just before the first lockdown in 2020

I quite agree that there never feels a good time to do it but that doesn't change the fact that there are some times which are better than others. Whilst the mandates being given out are October and January, the new dd letters will be hitting the doormat/inbox in September, that means anyone starting to put them up now will still be telling customers about the increase whilst " project fear" hits its peak. Good luck to anyone going ahead with it, but why on earth didn't you do it earlier in the year, we all knew what was coming.

Take a brave man to put prices up now lol you obviously want less work most won’t but some will see it as a Pi** take,at least we can work if I need or want more money I’ll do another job or 2 a day-week.

you do see the world in a strange way Nigel - how is a price increase a pee take when fuel has gone up 30% - never mind food shopping etc.. ??

Like I said Darren it will take a brave man to start increasing right across the board,I’ve had people put already well priced work up for me without me asking but I know this wouldn’t be the case with everyone.
I put some up at the beginning of the year but I wouldn’t be stupid enough to start now,it should be just a case of having to clean an extra job here and there to make up the difference or it is for me and let’s face it most of us earn well enough anyway.
-
yes I agree - you've done your price rise already - a second would be questionable - for those that haven't then its not brave - its a must
Ours went up last year - so nothing on regular windows but im adding 25% to all other works - windows will be increased next April

I would say in a lot of cases but of course not all putting domestics up a certain amount if anything at the moment would be a case of self sacking.

Utility bills probably won’t go down until 2024 , are we just supposed to carry on until then? Iv put 5 up this morning, 3 responded with a ‘ I totally understand, - keep my frequency the same please’
One said ‘ thanks for keeping my old price as long as you could , I’m ok with the increase -
-
My advise would be and it’s just my opinion work harder for the time being an extra job at the end of every day should make a difference,18 months from now look at things again but increasing prices on domestics at the moment imo isn’t the only option.
Commercial stuff I have increased over the last month but I’m not even thinking about putting domestics up again for at least 18 months.

We are still putting up our prices most are expecting it and some have openly asked if they are going up , fuel prices aren’t going to go down any time soon so if we don’t put up prices now we will be hugely out of pocket by putting them off until next year ,
-
Most of my prices have been but up only about a dozen to go up.
Any new work from walk ups etc are now quoted very high,

It depends imo how long between increases , my jobs are 3 years , a few are 4 now since being increased, so if I leave them until 2024 then it’ll be 6 years. Whether it’s April or September it’s got to be done. They’ve got to go up at some point , what you gonna do if gas/elec is still high in January/February 2024?

Is it just me who sees the irony of the adverts shown at the bottom of the page, here is a screenshot…… if anyone wants a change you can get £11.50hr working for the post office

driving jobs and other jobs still at £11+. Most of my custies are now up by £1/£2 xtra. not much to them but to me an xtra £100/ £150 a week. . New customers are now quoted new price . save me putting them up later
And i have not lost a customer yet.
ive had old customers asking me to start cleaning theirs again. saying there window cleaner is not up to it. not as good

With thought I think irony was the wrong word, it was more about the people who have to (or chose to) work for £11.50/hr and how they can’t react to ever increasing inflation/prices, but we can control our income by prices increases or finding more customers.

We have done what the supermarkets do , priced jobs to end on 9 pence . They seem to get it right . All our £2.50 £ 3.50 £4,50 jobs have been put up 49 pence . All our £5 to £9 jobs up the same 49 pence . Any jobs over a tenner , we are holding off until next year , don’t want to risk Losing the cream , so far not one cancellation, Totally fooled em into a price increase .

Flippin eck , anything over a tenner is cream work? Are you based in Burnley
-
even 50p increase is going to help. you know most customers. if you do a good job they will not want to loose you. it all depends if you over charge already. you may loose some
i think 50p / £1 / £2 is nothing shocking for a customer to cancel you
it may be an opportunity for new windies to canvass and creep in offering Lower prices

If they pay cash do some of them say keep the 1p change? Or do you have a bag of 1p coins for when they want change? 😂

I don’t understand how he’s fooled them into a price increase. He literally told them their price is going up , how is this fooling anyone? Genuinely want to know….

£2:50 ,£3:50 and £4:50 jobs up 49 pence are you serious ?…. We have a minimum £12 charge for anything the vast majority minimum is £15-20 there is no point in doing anything for less than £10 . £10 jobs are cream !,,,,, this must be a wind up ,you would earn more stacking shelves in Tesco
-
It's a wind up. Read the posts before yours...
-
Aprils price cap now being touted as being £5300, I wish that was a wind up, unfortunately not.
I wonder if you boys getting positive feedback from customers who have just been told their price of wc has gone up will still be feeling the love when the heatwave ends and the autumn chill starts and people are reaching for jumpers rather than putting the heating on, and get told the price of your non essential window cleaning is going up? Let's hope so eh.
-
The thing is with price rises is in reality if the can’t afford a £1/2 price increase then they won’t be able to afford the original price either, I’ve been putting all of my up in the last two weeks and everyone bar two who were both only out up £1 have been fine with it.
At the end of the day an extra couple of pound is not going to be the tipping point, if they can afford it then they can’t afford a window cleaner full stop
-
I've always said I am not a charity.
If I lose a few so be it.
After all, unless you are NWH then our price rises are not more than a few pounds.
Max £10:00/15:00.
Cannot be doing with procrastinating.
My clients have told me they expect it.

I've bought a hot water bottle before they all get snapped up! I'll be OK. ;D

Fingers crossed for a mild winter.

My gyms just put their price up this morning, can’t believe they are taking the P***. Surely they know my gas bill is going up?
Said there will be no more increases for the next year , and there I am holding my prices for 3 years . Absolute p*** take
-
Ive been putting my prices up this year with more enthusiasm than ever before to be honest.
So far just the one Scottish bit whose resisted. She smelt anyway.

I think price cap is the way to go . The energy companies have one, and they make billions. We are gunna have some flyers printed . Price cap of £11.49 . Held for 3 years . I cannot see how that can lose . Granville go away .

If you hold the price for three years in Yorkshire, would that be a flat cap?
I met a dyslexic Yorkshireman t'other day and he had a cat flap on his head.

Every little helps , we have done similar £2-3 on most and £5-20 on bigger jobs .
