Anybody use Sum Up ?
Notice there's a deal until end of the month on the Sum Up Air. £16 ( usually £29 ). Don't know how much I'd use it but could be useful for those one offs or folk at the door who promise to do a bacs later.

I got one but can never be bothered to use it. You have to connect it to your phone and fanny about. Easier just to hand them a slip with my bank details on.
Had it a few years and never used it.

I had wondered this myself. I know it's not a lot cost wise, but whether I'll use it much. Fannying about though ? I assumed you'd just pair it to your phone the once and that's that ? Is there more to it ?

Not used one myself but the fishmonger has one. He doesn't seem to fanny about.

I have one.
A commercial job I have pays with a card on the day.
Cheap to buy and run and very easy to use.
Turn it on and it will automatically pair to the phone.Type the amount in customer presents card as its contactless.Put customers mobile number in and it send them a receipt really simple.

There good and quick if used a bit all day. If not take an age to connect depending on signal area

I use one and find it great, so easy to use

I use mine most days. I don't tend to fanny about, its quick and easy .
great for those bigger jobs also.
I couldn't be without it now.
I only need to charge it about 3 times a year

Thanks for replies. I've been curious about these for a while now. I do occasionally get asked if I can take a card payment, moreso in the last year. Worth trying for £16 I think. 👍

Like many I don’t fanny about with the reader but, if you open the app, charge the amount and it goes to another page. Here it offers you payment links and you can send them the bill via SMS. I use that a lot

I use one and it's good.

I've used one for the last few years....it comes in handy for those customers that are always in but hardly ever got any cash(and don't trust or not savvy with online banking)....I only use it for £300 -£400 worth of work a month but I wouldn't be without it.....its contactless too so its no hassle at all....

The wife's mobile hair dresser uses one.
If you present a credit card to pay the bill, she charges an extra £2.
So the wife pays her by BACS.

I wonder if she knows that charging extra for card payments is illegal!!

I use the similar Zettle card machine, its really simple to use with your phone. If you have a £20 job, u pay about 35p which i think is ok, 1.7% ish the last time i looked at it.
It takes all cards visa/master/amex, apple & samsung phone pay. I dont think the sum up does samsung pay though, if this matters. You can't take over the phone payments on the Zettle but you can on the Sum up (this is when i got mine a few years ago, not sure if its still current).
These machines are very handy to corner those customers who are bad payers/forget to pay you online.
If you can catch them in, they can pay on card, no excuses, you can then forget about it.

I work in a couple of large areas where there is little mobile signal & absolutely no 3g, 4g, 5g or anything internet.
Would it still work here?

Going to the van, getting it out, waiting for it to connect and then doing the transaction etc counts as fannying to me vs clean windows, post a slip and gone.......
But yes for larger jobs maybe when youve factored a bit of fannying into the price then i guess it would work well, but still probably better to insist on cash only on bigger jobs.
