Didn't realise van insurance does not cover you to drive any other vehicle.

I've had many commerical insurance policies over the last 30 years.
So far, not one of them has covered me to drive another vehicle but they do exist - I've just never found one.
My car insurance does cover me to drive another car that doesn't belong or is hired to me - but this is only a CAR not a van or any other commercial. That's another exemption to be wary of.
As always the detail is in the fine print, which you have to read very carefully.

Many car policies are the same these days, check very carefully that you are covered for other vehicles is my advice. Last couple of policies I've had for the car have no cover for another vehicle.

That's another bit of tightening up the insurance companies have done.
When I started driving I was covered for Any Vehicle.
It then became Any Car or Motorcycle
and finally
Any Car.
Some limit 3rd party cover by age or value - always worth reading very carefully.

Depends who you insure with and their policy , mine does but I had to request it not all companies will give that cover .
