Someone drove into the back of my van while parked. Insurance sorting it out. Lost 4 days work. Does anyone one know how to prove your loss of earnings.

Use your most recent statement from HMRC to work out/prove an average daily rate.

Same thing happened to me two months ago.
Tow bar saved it but I have whiplash.

can you claim loss of earnings ?
I know people have tried but there always seemed to be a get out for the insurance company,
ie.. hiring a van etc....

I claimed loss of earnings after car accident when I was trad (about 30 years ago). I hired a car for a week then bought new vehicle, but still lost some work days to sort things out.
I had legal cover on my insurance policy which I used as accident was not my fault. Took a long time but I got back all the earnings loss I claimed.

Someone hit my van whilst i was parked up 3 years ago. I had a nightmare claiming loss of earnings.
Please take this advice, get a independent solicitors to claim on your behalf, otherwise you will loose out like I did.

Were you injured?
The insurance company have paid for four physio sessions for me so far which was eye opening.
I've lost about 10 days work too.

Thanks for all the replies. Just an update I was t in the van at the time so wasnt injured. The van was brand new 71 plate. They have to get me a new van like for like. Trouble is vant get a new van till next March. Going to ring them monday and ask for a settlement figure. Got a hire van at the moment only lost 3 days so dont if it's worth the hassle claiming for loss of earnings. Thanks for the replies

I'm sorry but my post on re-reading was a bit abrupt.
Glad you're ok and you weren't in the vehicle.
The insurance company wants to know if I'm going to claim for Personal Injury?
I initially said I didn't think it was necessary but have now lost a couple of week's work.
I may have cracked a rib and it's causing some issues when working although it was ok to start with.
A combination of age and existing wear and tear over a 1-4 month time period.
Hope you got all your losses sorted out quickly and painlessly.
Be careful out there.

Surely if they can't provide a new van till March then they have to keep paying for the hire vehicle? It's not like it's your fault that someone crashed into a parked vehicle. Also if your working from a 'standard van' without a system you will be able to do less work and your business will be harmed by losing customers!!! Maybe you could suggest that they hire you an appropriate vehicle with a built in system and wait for March for a new van. I think Facelift, windowcleaningwarehouse and streamline all seem to have suitably equipped vans for hire.
Don't forget to claim your vehicle road tax back!!!
Above all you should not be out of pocket due to the other party!

Insurance companies will only pay for a hire van until the claim is paid out they certainly won’t pay for a hire vehicle until March been there and had this experience, unfortunately that’s the law , getting a replacement is down to you , not saying I agree with this but that’s how it works . I had a solicitor try and get a similar situation sorted out for me but he said it’s a no go .

Think they want me to wait till march as they probably get a good discount of the manufacturer. Found a couple same spec as mine for sale and sent the details to the office that sources the Van's. Ig I dont want wait I can take a settlement figure which sounds good. £26700 I only paid £22700 trouble is I cant get a new van the same spec as mine for £26700 they've all increased in value that much strange times.

If you can't get a new van for what they are offering that isn't good!!!! I would be inclined to ask them to increase their offer so you can buy a new one now or say you will accept new van in March as long as they hire you a suitable van with a system in.
Remember it's not your fault so why should you suffer plus it's not your insurance company that will eventually foot the bill it's the other person who crashed into you. Remember that you will also have to start a new insurance policy!!
