My mum had two. I reckon 6 weeks minimum off as you need to restrict your movement for 6 weeks for your body to grow around the new hip.

I had bilateral (both) hip replacement 4yrs ago at 55yrs. I was off work 8 weeks but I’m  not a window cleaner just exterior cleaning. At 8 weeks I was climbing ladders and scaffold cleaning roofs.  Now I  run,  squat walk up hills and lead a normal active life

1 in 4 vs 1 in 5 for arthritis, so it's still pretty common.

Why?I only know of one old guy that's ever had a hip replacement ever and that's because he fell over (he s in his 80s)....

I've fallen off my ladders twice and landed on my heels both times...I was fine.... ;D...my bones are very strong due to regular resistance training and high protein diet.... ;)

I reckon every avenue will have been exhausted before the NHS decide to do a hip replacement Daz, they don’t just do these things willy nilly 😉

Lifting weights regardless of what people tell you Daz Will knacker you’re joints and soft tissue m8 if you want to keep fit go swimming or 🚲,nothing like deep squats and heavy leg press for popping and tearing the old Miniscus.

You won’t know what state you’re bones are in until you have an MRI and X-ray you can feel as well as you like they don’t lie Daz.

I don't do heavy squats mate,never have....

Weight training does  NOT knacker your joints or soft tissue.....quite the opposite,it strengthens connective tissue, strengthens bones and protects joints due to muscle surrounding them....

You really haven't got a clue have you Nigel?I'm not power lifting!now that is crazy stuff and will be detrimental to your body over time

Good genes will go further to you living a longer healthy life Daz not lifting weights and if someone told you lifting weights keeps you fit it’s probably the person taking the monthly subscription from you, lifting weights will injure soft tissue over time if you went swimming a few times a week you’d be fitter and more supple trust me 😉

Strengthens bones lol who told you that the bloke in the toilets trying to sell steroids to you  because that’s what will do that although you’re heart won’t like it much 🤣🤣, diet and natural supplements do that muscle and bone  is repaired from protein intake along with the natural supplements not 20 pints of Fosters over the weekend.

If swimming isn't the best form of exercise for us then why do hospitals believe in hydrotherapy pools for patients to regain muscle use?

Yes but you can be super fit cardio wise and look like a bag of poo. Weight training definitely helped my neck pain, muscle stabilizes joints .

Only saying this as I'm currently building a gym in my back garden  ;D

Look at someone that has dramatically lost weight and feels generally fitter,a lot of them will say I just go swimming 3-4 times a week now.
I have a customer that’s lost about 5 stone just walking a few miles a day and tidying up her diet.

Astronauts that have spent 6 months in space are prone to bone breakages because it takes 18 months for their bone density to grow back to normal because their not putting pressure on their joints, bones, etc due to lack of gravity...

Weight training does strengthen bones over time and keeps them strong...its only one part of fitness though, cardio is important too but swimming and cycling is not weight bearing exercise so shouldn't be done without some form of resistance training too especially as we age....

Weight training also strengthens connective tissue over time,it forces the body to adapt and change

Testosterone treatment for men of a certain age is the answer.
