Title: Is this ok to increase RO production?
Post by: Simon Carter on July 18, 2006, 03:28:34 pm
Further to a thread by Paul Mather on water production, both he & I have been struggling with poor pressure from our RO's, probably due to poor mains pressure. I've overcome this by restricting the flow of the waste water. This has increased the pressure in the system, uped my production of pure water significantly & reduced the waste. Seems blindingly simple & effective, but will it severly reduce the life of the membranes & the flilters?

How does the TDS of the RO'd water compare with previously.

hi simon, with all ro units there is a flow restrictor in place (this can be built in to the housing or it canbe a pipe insert), if your ro unit is from ro-man then most likely the restrictor is a pipe fitting restrictor in the flush valve loop - if its not there then get one from ro-man and insert it in the loop ( the flush valve should sit in the other side of the loop).  Make sure its the correct size for your ro unit (100gpd/200gpd etc)

Hi there,

It will not affect your pre-filters but could well reduce the life of the membranes, make sure you flush them every week for at least 10 mins to counter this.
