i have 1 ninja already ( 2x3 stage 135 psi) but would want to keep this machine as a  back up machine or use it for big jobs!!

or does anyone have any other suggestions for an alternative machine

i have a reasonable budget to spend!!!!! :-X :-X

I bought the 400psi ninja is December 2005. On the whole I would say it was one of the best portables out there and is ideal for domestic work.
I do a lot of schools, churches etc and cant help but find it lacking somewhat. I dont think its the manufacturers issue as there is only so much power you can draw out of a wall socket for these machines and they have it as powerfull as you can get.
The other issue is with the V2 steam mate portable. great bit of kit but dont plug it into the same ring of sockets as the two required for the machine as the building fuses will trip. Bit of a pain in the ****
I dont want you put you of buying one, far from it, just want you to be aware of the fuller picture.

I'm a bit confused. Why is 400psi required. Do we really want to drive the water so deep into the carpet or upholstery. I collected a new Ninja last week and opted for the 130(i think)psi.

Why are you so confused?
1stly, the pressure is adjustable so your 400psi machine could be turned down to 130psi to do upholstery and turned up to 400psi on dirty carpets where it will take you several passes to get a similar result.
But in answer to your question, yes I would say that in certain circumstances, you do need to drive the water the base of the tufts which is why it has 2 x 3 stage heavy duty vacs to suck out the majority of the moisture.

Well I'll stick with my 130psi. 400psi pump adds even more weight to an already heavy machine
