What you guys do when you are struggling for motivation . Take a week off , put up your prices , count your money or something else ?
-
Depends on why your lacking motivation....
Is it work, is it your Homelife, is to your health ?
If possible try to identify what is the underlying cause
work wise - regular windows wold get me down - so I go and do pressure washing or s/f/g stuff - a change is as good as a rest

After I went back to work after the first lockdown (March to May 2020) I was seriously lacking any motivation. Some days I just worked a few hours, other days I couldn't bring myself to leave the house. It was horrible. This went on until April this year, when I decided I had to buckle down and get my head straight. I'm fine now, but it really surprised me that I had no enthusiasm to go out and do a job that I love doing, and facing customers with whom I have a great rapport.

take a week off if you ve not had much time off lately.....
organise your work properly so you work as efficiently as possible...
work part time hours if you can and weekends off.....most weeks im only working 20-25 hours per week
remember how lucky you are.......it would be far worse working for someone else working longer hours for a lot less money!
-
ive been working mon-thurs for the last 3 weeks and having 3 day weekends...i like it! :)
-
I went through same problem turned out I was depressed 😪
-
Pick up some more work. Quite the opposite of what others are suggesting really. It motivates me.
-
Fair play lads . Honestly its very strange for me the mo jo really just gone out of it which is strange as business has never been better and doing great numbers . Normally I just get up and go and dont even think about it. Out d door next 2 weeks so going to soldier thru that and go 2/3 day week for a while after that . Its quite possible im burnt out a little as since lockdown lifted its been non stop. As ever the forum doesn't disappoint here, thanks for the support as usual.
-
I just think about the luxuries in life that can be had and the lifestyle it brings......that’s enough motivation for me.
-
Try having someone with you, it’s crazy how much it motivate you to hit big numbers when you’ve got a little help.
-
It’s a struggle at the moment fir a lot of people I’ve normally had a couple of breaks by now I could do with a holiday laying about not doing anything for a week-10 days.
-
Most of us have just made a job for ourselves rather than a business.
A mundane, repetitive one at that.
Its boring as hell and depressing at times.
If you can find someone to work with that you get on with it makes it a lot more enjoyable and easier.
I need to do something myself, im sick to death of it.
-
i have been out there picking up shops , not the biggest earner at the moment but really enjoy doing them ,seems to break the day up . its like having loads of cash point machines dotted about town .
thats whats motivating me right now
-
window cleaning is nothing more than a lifestyle business for me these days to fit around my weight training, drumming and relaxing with family,etc....
im very rarely seriously bored of it because i work short hours and usually listen to music, audiobooks when cleaning......
like ive already said ive been working 4 days a week for the last 3 weeks but ill be working 5 next week as ive got £1500+ of work due......but im not working 35-40 hour weeks and havent for many years!if i was i would be really fed up with cleaning by now....
-
remember how lucky you are.......it would be far worse working for someone else working longer hours for a lot less money!
Thanks for that little reminder, we really are

I don't get it when people say that, do you have to sell some of your customers to be able to do that? I'm so busy if I work less than 6 days a week then it's not enough
-
It’s a stress free way to make a living the grass is always greener and all that.
-
I had the same im now on meds for depression no enegery and some days couldn't face working all i wanted to do was stay home started making excuses not to go fishing witch i love doing
-

no.....i have 340 jobs at present...i mixture of 4/8 and 6/12 weekly.....3 and 4 bed estate houses to large stand alone domestic houses and everything in between, offices,a large church, childrens homes and childrens nurseries....i also clean some artwork on a main road every 2 months!
over 300 jobs are in a 3 mile affluent area......im nowhere near full up and dont want to be!
-
i worked 9am-230pm today and cleaned 27 jobs(30 mins for lunch)......i was home by 3pm and all done by 330pm(slips printed and worksheets downloaded for tomorrow, tank filled up and batteries on charge)
just making my tea now while watching the england game! 8)
-
Don’t no how you can do 27 jobs in that time scale:
???

I’m sure that will help motivate the o/p
Over 5 houses an hour lol

So dazmond, minus your 30 mins for Lunch, leaves 5hours ( 300 minutes ) divided by 27 jobs = 11.111 minutes per
Job ? Can you explain these figures, it doesn't add up to me 11 minutes + per job.
-
There's whole weeks where I don't clean 27 jobs!😄

Nathan Kay could do 30 detached properties with conservatories in 5 hours, all done with only 200 litres of water, best to just smile and nod. ;D

easy when there all next door to each other....a couple were fronts only so it was only actually around 23 full houses back and front, some with connys/extensions,some without....

some were fronts only so they take less than 5 mins to clean Larry.....all these jobs are next door to each other and most are 4 weekly...house after house after house.......ive been cleaning them for years....ive got another 27 booked in for tomorrow and 22 on thursday then im done until monday....
next week ive got 56 jobs to do in 5 days (just over £1500 worth) but some are large domestic and offices with a scattering of smaller jobs.....swings and roundabouts.....

i certainly couldnt clean 30 detached properties in 5 hours even if they were next door to each other.....
i usually drain most of my 500L tank in 5 hours cleaning smaller jobs...

That's great the OP is struggling so you have to go on a boast about how great you are!
That's really going to help him feel better. Talk about kicking a man when he's down.

hopefully it will inspire him to pick himself up and dust himself down and crack on.......

I doubt it, but hey ho you have hijacked another post with your boasting and talking about yourself
-
Have you ever looked up the meaning of narcissistic Daz??
-
I doubt it, but hey ho you have hijacked another post with your boasting and talking about yourself
i dont know.
personally i find it inspiring people who have made a successful business, or a successful lifestyle.
it helps having people empathise with you if you're down. but after the empathy and kind words what most of us want is an idea of how we can move forward from where you are and get to a better place.
daz is just showing how he went from being sick of window cleaning, to being in a point where he has a decent business, all run by himself, and has a lifestyle all around it.
knowing that it is possible to do great days of work, and finish early and put your feet up, is pretty exciting for me
do you really want to only hear from people who say yes it is tough, yes it is boring, and yes it is a grind, or do you want to hear someone also say it doesn't have to be like that?
-
I too finish early with feet up as you say, but unlike you I don't really find that exciting, or feel the need to massage Daz's ego any further, he got caught with the BS , the other week with the when I'm getting married/not getting married nonsense, so just take what he says with a pinch of salt really.

There you go....I dont BS mate!👍

when i used to struggle with motivation at times was when i was on the ladders back in the 90s/noughties........
late nights and partying
too much booze, smoking and sometimes a few class As
poor diet(eating too much processed food and very little fruit/veg)
at times i felt terrible and couldnt face work........this went on for years
-

cheers richard......
im in a much better place these days but its all down to cleaning up my lifestyle as well as determination and hard work
-
Quite a few £180 days on your planner there Daz, not so quick to tell us all about them ones are you ;D ;D ;D
-
If its really getting you down look into something else. Thats what Im doing.
The business side is exciting but the actual window cleaning is awful.
It's the most boring thing anyone could do with their time. When Im doing it I realise what a waste of my brain power it is. Any idiot could do it. I feel like an idiot doing it. You use your brain more working at McDonalds than you do window cleaning. People will; post: "Yeah but look how much we're earning!" but on your death bed you'll look back and think what the f was I doing all day swinging round a pole.
I can't wait to get out of it.

4 hour days....... ;D...also theres a few skipped jobs due to building work, etc that still show as jobs done...in fact im down around £500 over the last 2 months due to skipped jobs..loads of customers are either having extensions, new driveways,painting,etc,etc...its crazy....ive never known so much outside work being done!
also open reach have been digging up the pavements around where i work for the last few weeks and putting in fibre optic cables which can be a pain for parking and getting hose to some jobs!

I Lost motivation with carpet cleaning, for 15yrs it was my life, even my holidays were based around carpet cleaning conventions (in LasVegas, purely business and tax deductible 😆 )
Cheapo companies and a new breed of customers who knew the price of everything but the value of nothing slowly killed my love of the game. so I packed it in
Sometimes you just need to say sod it and move onto new pastures

You'd use your brain more in retail than you would cleaning windows. Up down, splash splash REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT

-
Its funny how life works out had to take few days off due to family emergency . Back today and already feel the hunger again ! Similar to other posters cleaning day in day out i do find monotonous but the money available if I work hard always softens that cough for me . Pressure washing at 6.30am and finished work 20 mins ago

The beauty of this game IMO is that it can be whatever you want it to be. You can be Daz or Lee Pryor and everything in between. The only thing you can't be is someone else. You have to decide what you want, do you want a good wage for part time hours with more free time or does money motivate you more? There's no right or wrong, we all want different things in life and our circumstances can sometimes even dictate our decisions. Whatever it is, don't look at another man, as that man is no better or worse than you, just do what you need to do for you and yours.
Some years ago I stopped with 'targets'. I actually found they demotivated me and made feel more worse when I didn't hit them than any joy I got when I did! I've made a comfortable life with all the benefits that this game offers in respect to both money and freedom and I'm more than happy being just a window cleaner. 👍

totally agree.
everyone has their own right size for their business.
once you realise what that is, you can start deciding what life you want your business to give you... and then make it happen

Think how much the Mrs will spend this week and try and match it.

I don't believe anybody enjoys window cleaning Jay, it the ability to do the hours I want when I want that keeps me at it, that said somebody younger with a new family and mortgage to pay off may not have that luxury.
