Does anyone on here take Glucosamine and Chondroitin as a daily supplement for joint pain?
I started taking daily from Monday this week and never felt so rubbish - stomach cramps etc - i've since read that this can be a side effect, has anyone else experienced this and are the side effects likely to lessen if i continue?

Generally (IMHO), these suplements work better on your head than the body, The placebo effect is very very strong and we all believe what we want to believe regarding supplements/copper wrist bands/magic stones, and various other concoctions, fundamentally, if you think something is doing you good then by all means try it,in your case it looks like its doing the opposite so I think you should bin them,

Since I started taking glucosamine and cod liver oil my tennis elbow and bad back has not returned so it’s a thumbs up from me

I take these amongst other supplements and they’ve improved my overall mobility no end.
It’s definitely not in the head.
I’d be mad to stop taking them.
-
What dosage are you taking and did you have any side effects when you first started taking them?

i take fish oil, vitamin and mineral supplement and vit b tablet every day.......
i used to take glucosamine too but i dont think it actually does anything....i dont have joint pain with or without taking glucosamine...
i think the research is very sketchy in regards whether it helps build cartilage and strengthens joints anyway.....
the best thing you can do to strengthen tendons and joints is to do regular walking and a few weight training sessions per week to keep building muscle which will help protect your joints and strengthen your bones as you age....

I think it's a total load of rubbish all that junk they sell in Holland and Barrett and those other rip off places.
Eat a healthy diet with loads of fresh food not takeaway's or burgers or KFC and you won't need any supplements.
Most normal healthy people don't actually need them.

we all eat takeaways, burgers and KFC though from time to time(at least once a week),if your strength training a few times a week i think its important to take some supplements too as well as normal food...
remember a lot of food is now so mass produced in poor soil and sprayed with chemicals they only contain half the vitamins and minerals that you used to get 20-30 years ago.....

I started taking vitamin D yeah D and I’m outside like everyone most days I was feeling crap so they did a blood test,I was very low in this I started taking 2000iu a day and I felt 1000 x better they do work they take a long time to get into you’re system especially cod liver oil and glucosamine etc.
A few tablets a day for a few weeks you won’t feel anything you need to keep taking them for months before you’ll reap any benefits.

Been taking for a few months.
Not sure if they work or not tbh
you could be allergic to them (shellfish)

Glucosamine is supposed to help maintain and build cartilage in your joints.
Years ago there was a Belgian double blind trial where they took xrays of knee joints of arthritis sufferers to measure cartilage thickness, before, midway and at the end of the study.
It was found that participants who took glucosamine - their cartilage thickness had either increased or remained the same.
I have been taking glucosmine for 10 years or so (to maintain joint health as opposed to trying to heal my joints). I am nearly 57.
I use a vegetarian form of glucosamine from Nature's Best.

Me too. Eating oily fish is good for the joints.

Hello Innocence
You could try these instead if your supplements keep making you nauseous
I’m a great one for buying supplements not taking them 🤦♂️ Then throwing them away when there out of date 😳😁
Heard sulphur is key in fighting joint pain
I think glucosamine is good but expensive 🤦♂️
Bit like blueberries 🫐 super food, expensive
When red currants are a lot cheaper and just as good
Read reviews in link and do a benefits of sulphur search 🔍 on google and YouTube
Stay well 👍

Thankyou all for your reply’s, some very interesting info, going to call the doctor today as still not good, beginning to wonder if they’ve reacted to other medication I’m taking.
