Had a nightmare day today. Record hose catches and tangles. Also had to get the ladder off 7 times, proper grief.
Thinking of getting a telescopic ladder. Would be for access to flat roofs.
Are they any good? Safe?

I use the Xtend n climb. Amazing ladder will never look back. The thought of taking a ladder of the roof makes me cringe

I found it nearly as much work to extend and collapse the extendable ladder as getting the double off the roof.

They look like they've got about as much strength and rigidity as a wet flannel.

I’d prefer to dump all of the flat roof and up ‘n over jobs than buy another ladder tbh.

i never understand window cleaners who end up buying a crappy extendable ladder that barely reaches the edge of a flat roof......they are nowhere near as safe as a proper trade ladder...
they dont save any time either (by the time you ve extended it) you could of just got your sturdy ladders off your roof rack.....

You will need to buy a really good quality one - not the £80 touch on flea bay - after a few months they generally collapse while your on them the Ali used is not a good grade and the pins fail - so the ladder suddenly has no strength one side.
Lots don't meet standard and I would never use them again, particularly with staff.
Stick to quality rigid ladders

i did years ago now Danny...ive not got a single flat roof i climb over anymore....but i do have a few(ahem....)self cleaning glass roofs i clean regularly on large domestic houses(with a flat roof walk around)

Never liked the telescopic ladders.
Purchased little giant type later. Extendable up to first floor or low gutter also can be an adjustable step ladder. Fit nicely in the back of the van as well

I’ve got 1 single job that I need ladders for a flat roof. It’s nicely priced (roof lantern cleaned every month) she’s a good customer and tips well at Christmas. I’ve never took on any up’n’over garage jobs from the day i started.

I've dropped them all too.
I don't mind getting up on a flat roof but up and over going down the other side no thanks.
In my experience going up is OK because you can foot the ladder and test it - it's going down on the other side when you're most likely to have a fall.
I know it's happened to me and it's not pleasant.

i worked like that for 17 years doing up and over flat roof jobs...now its fronts only or go through their garage! ;D

I’ve used telescopic over the last few years to get onto flat roofs . There’s more than enough height on the extend to climb 3.2 mtr
I will say though that the quality is getting better. They used to get hard to extend with grit after a while , but the latest one I bought has been good for over a year now . Also has legs that automatically come out from the sides for stability. Get it from a screwfix and they will replace if it plays up. Getting the ladders off the van was the number one pain in the arse part of the job I couldn’t go back to . Also a cinch for going through peoples houses

I have a double that would go into a LWB van as some have said it’s easier and safer with a normal ladder I reckon,mine comes off for a lowish flat roof a few times every couple of months only these days.

Telescopic ladders are down right dangerous I know a lot of people that have had accidents with them , due to them thinking that they have locked in place when they haven’t , I certainly wouldn’t use one .
