I hate add on's. I had a call yesterday to quote for solar panels and plastics etc. I got there, slowed down as I drove up to the house and thought feck it I can't be arsed and drive off. Blocked her number just in case she phones to ask why I didn't turn up. Unprofessional I know but I can't be arsed these days.

I turn down probably twice as much as I take on. Mainly due to location of the jobs but quite a few potential pain in the arse customers aswell.
I always tell them though, usually make up an excuse why the job isn’t for me, else you end up getting slagged off all over the Internet.

Yes quite a lot now, hate it when someone comes out from across the road or next door as i just cant be arsed ;D same as when a regular asks for gutters, insides or connys i try to make an excuse.
Emails and messages i generally dont respond to anymore but then i cant be arsed in general most of the time.
Ive agreed to do work and got to the house and thought nah cba and kept on driving too :D

I turn down loads. I'm refining my round, so it would be silly for me to take on more work that I don't really want!
If I don't like the sound of them from a web enquiry then "sorry i'm too busy".
If I don't like the sound of them from my leaflet drops then "sorry i'm too busy, i've had such a great response from my leaflets that i'm not taking on any more work in your area".
If I go to quote and I don't like them, then I price it high, so I won't get it.
Luckily a window cleaner friend of mine is after more work, so I give his number to EVERY enquiry I don't want.

If I am not interested , I will always refer them to someone who can help them.
if I am interested but am struggling to fit them in , I may tell them that they will have to wait a couple of months . ( if its an add on )
I try to accomadate all window cleaning inquiries and charge accordingly.
the only time I block a number is if I have dropped a customer for being a bad payer, or a habitual skipper of cleans.
I tend to do any add ons on a saturday morning , as my son will help me . its quality time spent together , and cash to help him whilst hes in college.
generally this is two saturday mornings a month.
I like to build and refine , or build and price increase ...

i dont generally do what you did yesterday but i dont take on every potential job....heres my top 5 reasons for not taking a job on...
1.mid terraced house
2.awkward parking
3.no access to the back windows(not a problem if fronts only next door to other work though)
4.poor condition wooden sash windows on listed buildings
5.too far away from other work

I agree with 2 and 5 but mid terraced stuff is very lucrative I learnt a lesson from mick Kent on hear about fronts only I always turned them down due to no access to the back , now we do dozens of them , longest run is 10 in a row I wish we had more as they are very good earners 😂😂

Very rarely - I price accordingly and let the customer decide then give them a long lead time
Having said that I've just cancelled a school clean as the insides are really dirty and got lots of that security film bubbling and peeling off

I’m as busy as I want to be with easy regular maintenance window cleaning so the only add-ons I do now are easy access conservatory roofs. I also turn down domestic window cleaning work if it’s not in a street I already work......Unless it’s on my rural route, where properties tend to be bigger and/or isolated so I can charge a premium for this type of work.

Not much . Just ones like last night who ring me at 7.55pm of a friday evening after a hard week and then tell me Im very very dear . Its my own fault for answering .
-
I price stuff silly high when I don’t want it, that way if I get it, I don’t mind.

I have about 20/30 jobs id like to get rid of due to through the house or no side gate but a back gate where you have to move the van.
Whats the best excuse?

You don’t need an excuse as such. Just tell them you’re cutting back on your workload then pass the work/sell it on to someone else. I’m sure someone starting up would be happy to take it on.

When you don’t have any access or parking issues it becomes and much easier and more enjoyable job, pulling up and seeing obstacles like cars parked in the way or a locked gate gets you off on the wrong foot before you’ve even started cleaning.

My customers always have their cars on the drive. I can work around them mostly. Annoying tho.

Due to social distancing as a company you are unable to offer walk throughs any longer or your insurance won’t cover it ?
