Title: New membrane flush
Post by: chris turner on March 10, 2021, 06:00:55 pm
Can't remember how long to flush a new membrane for?! Its a 4021 hf4.
Flushed it for an hour and its getting tds down to 30 from 300 but would usually expect about 8 tds. Does it need a much longer flush?

possibly,  altho I usually reach optimum TDS with my 4040 membranes after 30 mins

how long have you been running it to produce 'pure' I'd be inclined to live it running this way for 30 mins and see if the TDS drops

As soon as the solution is flushed out it should drop if it’s not dropping it still has solution in the membrane as Darren says about half an hour if I remember rightly.

It seems to be dropping but slowly, was 30 its now 27 and in line tds meter is flickering between 27 and 26. Its had over an hours flush.

Just to add its producing pure very well, just the tds taking ages to drop.

All of a sudden it starts to drop drastically you should have it on full flush water at 26-27 although soft it’s not soft enough for a 40x40.

I think it should be fine. Seems to be dropping by 1 every 30 mins or so and producing pure rapidly. Think it just needs to bed in for a couple of days. Hopefully

How are you managing to produce pure when flushing?

I was thinking the same..
I don't flush my new membranes just disconnect it from the di for 30mins it usually settles down by then.

I'm not. I meant when I switch it to producing pure the tds is slowly dropping.
Had it on for 3 hours last night and it dropped by about 7. Hoping it will continue dropping this evening when filling.
As said I think its just bedding in, maybe sat on a shelf for a long time and dryed out.

Last membrane I had i only flushed for 10 mins then it was producing water at 7ppm immediately. That was a cheaper membrane from ebay, this new one is an axeon.
When I think back to the last axeon membrane I bought, which was several years ago, I think I had the same issue with tds slowly dropping over time until it found its sweet spot.

The last HF5 membrane I got flushed and was also producing water at around 2-5 very quickly.

Not going down any further then 20ppm which is crap.
I just removed the membrane to check its all fitted correctly and realised grippa sent me a hf4 rather then hf5 that I ordered.
I think grippa have an error on their website as they sell the 4021 hf5 for cheaper then the hf4, which I'm certain the hf5 is more expensive everywhere else.
Do you think grippa would let me swap this membrane even though its been used for a day?

Well if you’ve ordered an HF5 I wouldn’t think they can refuse can they.

If you ordered an HF5 and got an HF4 then yes they will have to take it back

Grippa sent the wrong product?  :o

To be fair to grippa I have ordered a few things from them lately and all has been correct with speedy delivery, quicker then gardiners actually!
I do think this is a genuine mistake in their system that needs correcting..

Yes - incorrect goods

If, you ordered a 4 then no you would have to live with the error

Their mistake they need to replace

Grippa refused to take the membrane back on the grounds that, "because I used the membrane it constitutes acceptance of order".
Instead they asked for details of my system setup so I can better optimize things. Well there's nothing to optimize, I use a 21 inch pre filter (bought recentlyfrom them), Clarke cbm240e booster pump, 2 × 4021 membranes all plumbed up with John guest fittings. Everything worked perfectly until they sent me the wrong membrane.
Won't be ordering from them again, they've been crap from start to finish to be honest.

Did you pay by credit card?

If so inform them and they will refund you and pursue grippa

You an always tell how good a company is by the way they handle customer complaints - I wouldn’t take off for an answer on this
