Title: Why does stopping for lunch
Post by: Stoots on December 03, 2020, 11:55:46 am
Result in you losing all enthusiasm to carry on cleaning windows?

I was flying along this morning in the rain, soaking wet but cracking on.

Now ive just stopped, had somert to eat, got all dry and warm and i really cba moving.

No doubt i will do a few more then knock off early.

My kid's school works on the same principle:

Lunch is 1:30-2:30 and they go home at 3:30.

Seems to work well.

I never properly stop for lunch I’ll do 1-2 jobs stop quick for a quick tea-coffee and do that throughout the day  i normally eat when I get home,I used to know a bloke who stopped religiously for an hour everyday that would completely spoil my rhythm and make me feel more tired.

After you eat your body uses energy to digest your food so your energy levels for work will drop.

There are health benefits to intermittent fasting, or eating just one meal a day. Personally I have not gone that far myself, but try to do as much work before stopping for lunch, or if a short day just having a late lunch when I get home.

You need to eat more healthy foods or get fitter.
The reason you feel tired after a meal is...it's your bodies way of digesting the food.
It actually takes a lot of energy to digest food, so your body will partly shut down, so that it can use your energy more efficiently to digest your food.
If you eat more healthy foods, your body doesn't need so much energy to digest it, so you feel better.
If you are really fit, you have the energy to digest your own food without feeling tired.
Scenario:
Remember your parents had a big Sunday dinner, or Christmas feast, then fell asleep in front of the telly in the afternoon.
....That's why.

That’s meat that does that to you I remember watching something about it your body produces a chemical after you eat a large meal with meat especially red meat,I think that’s why maybe you’ll be falling asleep after your roast dinner.

this is what works for me to keep me motivated in winter....

1......a 5 or 6 hour working day
2....... a few waterproof jackets in the van so i can swap for a dry one after lunch
3........hot water(of course)results in soft, warm, manageable hose and an easier day overall
4.......heated driver seat...yes a luxury but its nice on a cold, wet, day like today!
5........a decent packed lunch and flask of tea
6........bluetooth headphones for listening to audiobooks, podcasts, music, etc
7......waterproof footwear and  trousers..(nothing worse than wet legs and feet while at work!)
8.....plenty of nitrile gloves in the van(i swap for a fresh pair after lunch)

Crikey mate!

Get those vegetables and fruit down your gob!

You’ll feel better for it, I do eat a lot of junk in the evenings after dinner, but always get my fruit and veg in, along with fresh food, not frozen rubbish.

I also find if I have a big bowl of porridge with blueberries in it for breakfast, i can get through to midday (just about) and get almost all my work done. Usually leaves me with just 2-5 houses to do after lunch.

I start at 8am. Almost always home by 1-1:30pm.

You are right, ive started numerous times with diet and exercise over the years but always manage to slip back to my old ways. I think its because i simply dont enjoy eating healthy and exercising, its just a chore.

Im 39 next week, so only 1 more year until i am officially an old man  :D

So many people dont know what their doing to themselves healthwise with ingrained habits of poor diet and lifestyle choices.....I know as I was one of them.....
I didnt care when I was younger...the body can take a fair amount of abuse but you gotta start to look after it as you get older.....

Also you might think 'I'm getting old that's why I feel like this'.....NO....its a culmination of EVERYTHING......poor diet, lack of exercise, deficient in certain vitamins/minerals most probably and poor sleep over a long period of time..

Its insidious......it creeps up on you over the years......thankfully for most of us if you start to feed your body better food and start an exercise regime that YOU enjoy(start slowly) your health will slowly get much better in time...

You probably dont know how well you could feel because of your lifestyle.......the bad news is in the not too distant future your health will slowly get worse and worse if you carry on with your poor diet...you wont notice it as it creeps up on you...you ll have less and less energy/zest for life.....

That’s was me a couple of years ago too Adam, we’re the same age btw.

I’ve been eating a whole food diet (fresh fruit, Veg, nuts etc all unprocessed) and running 30+ miles a week for the last 12 months now and what a difference it makes. I’ve lost nearly 2 stone and am pretty much at my optimal weight for my height now.

I’m 40 next time and absolutely refuse to be that fat out of shape guy on my 40th.

It’s not easy and it’s a way of life rather than a fad diet but once your body starts adapting and changing it’s well worth the effort.

(Oh and I’m certainly no lifetime health freak. Like Daz I spent most of my 20’s high and most of my early 30’s drunk, smoked 20 a day until age 35)

I think you've answered your own question!

If this is a genuine problem for you then why don't you just make a few changes.

At lunchtime have some fruit instead of your usual lunch. Bananas, apples, oranges, whatever you fancy.
Don't try and fill yourself up, just eat some fruit...your body will adapt and you won't fill hungry.

Try joining an exercise club (I know difficult at the moment) and I would recommend boxing.
You'll make some new friends (and they'll beat the crap out of you) but you'll feel like a million dollars (or about £750,000).
Eat fruit, go boxing.
Trust me  ;D

I thought you were letting it go  ;D.
But as a socialist, there should be no need for food banks. As a capitalist you must be disappointed that there are a lot more food banks than there are McDonald's restaurants in this country?

I do think that poor people do deserve to eat though. Do you think that poor people don't deserve to eat?

You keep bringing it up. I go with the system and I've no reason to use a food bank.
Just enjoy your state grant comfortable in the knowledge that you can just go and see a doctor tomorrow without paying. You can thank a socialist Labour government for that.

You didn't answer my questions, btw. Do poor people not deserve to eat and have you got a 'reasoning' for food banks in the 21st century, mate?

A friend of mine trads bungalows, he's coming up for retirement.

I never realised, (until recently) but he fell of ladders a long while ago and broke both his ankles. Hence why, he now, only trads bungalows.

He does ok for himself.

He also volunteers, helping out, at a food bank, every week.

He's a very humble, nice guy.

With less choice.
And you need a referral for some. Those referrals are so popular because so many people are in a position to need free food.
Good, eh?
