Title: how times and prices have changed
Post by: Jay Le Huray on November 23, 2020, 01:50:39 pm
out working today it got me thinking of the prices I used to charge when I first started in 1975

my average price then was £1-50 for a 3 bed semi/bungalow

I think my best house in those days was a big house in the country @ £10, took me 1 hour to do

I also had a YMCA hostel job, this job took me nearly all day doing it trad (no wfp back then)  this job was £50 my best job on the books,

my average earnings then were between £150 - £180 per week

Also bare in mind in those days no one had conservatories  either

Not a bad earner when the average house price was £10k rather than the £250k it is now. If your prices had increased by the same amount those bungalows would be £37.50!

It is mad, I started in 1980 and was charging 80p for 1 bed flats, £1,20 2 bed, 3 bed semi £3
Different world then, seemed fairly stress free as well.
Probably got my rose coloured spectacles on  :)

I Started in 1992....  I was charging around £3.50 for a typical 3 bed semi ,  although I believe I may have been too cheap.
there was only 3 shiners in my town back then... now there is about 15 plus.

door knocking for a couple of hours in an evening , and would always find 5/10/15 new customers.
