Title: Type of vehicle to buy
Post by: Scott D on November 09, 2020, 12:22:40 pm
Hi all,

I'm totally new to all of this and in the process of looking, researching etc into setting up my self employed business

I'm looking at carpet cleaning ( Domestic and or small commercial ) carpets, hard floors and fogging
And micro mist disenfecting

What types of vans / vehicles are most suited ?

Not truck mounted

I want a 5/6 seater as it will be my daily useable vehicle also

Crew cab transit van or pickup with hard top or 0ther suggestions ?

Pros and cons for both ?

I think i know the answer but would be good to hear from yourselves with knowledge and experience

Much appreciated

Scott

I use a swb transit custom and I wouldn't want to go any smaller tbh , I looked at a lwb crew van and there's not alot in it maybe 12-18 inches overall load length which surprised me, but I think the lack of side door would bug me.

Thank you thats really helpful

I think as long as its practical for work and useable for my family vehicle then itll work

I was considering a pick up but i dont think theres enough height in them with a hard top and maybe too high at the rear for loading/off loading.....plus maybe not as professional looking ?

A pickup would be nice ,but it depends what gear your using , no way in hell I'd want to be loading/unloading my extractor or rotary on)off one at that height.

I have alot of other cleaning kit on my van so need more space. My next one I want twin side doors so I can make better use of the dead space where I hide the kit I don't use much  ;D

How about considering a trailer, if you can park it off road on an evening it might be an alternative.  Trying to use a work vehicle as a family runabout  is not  an ideal situation.

Thank you both

A pick up would be my choice ( but clearly not practical )

I dont really want a trailor so a crew cab van it will be

Cheers for the input and advice 🤙🏻

If you are going for a crew cab I would go for the Vauxhall Vivaro or the Renault as in my opinion they have more room in them  for the family and kit in the back than the Ford.  If possible buy the LWB

Seconded fir the Vivaro/Trafic, drives like a car but plenty of room in the back,I have the  SWB version as the LWB would stick out of my drive too far.  Also low floor for loading. Don’t get a trailer as you  would need to put it away each night to avoid  the equipment being exposed to the elements and or stolen .
