Title: Builders clean
Post by: Blackadder on October 22, 2020, 05:47:52 am
Been taking a few builders cleans job on lately for a mate but getting sick of them already! Just out of interest, what is the best method to get rid of the stickers that the windows company guys leave on them when ladders just won’t reach to get them by hand? He just lost a new build clean due to adding the price of a cherry picker as another window cleaning company had said they could get them off with reach and wash!!?

You can’t get them off without getting up close.  Best and quickest way is to soap the area up and scrape with one of these:-

Don’t try to compete on price with someone who doesn’t know what they are doing.

Basically you think the company who have said they can do it from the ground are just lying to get the contract as my friend lost the contract because he had to add a cherry picker to the cost due to needing to be up close to use a scraper to remove the stickers? To be honest I thought this would be the case.

If you’re using a ladder get the one with the uneven ground flat feet accessory. Get a ladder permission form from builder. Use Solvent spotter, from a double glazing window firm or from internet. We use this all the time for stickers, its fast and removes the glue backing off the glass after you’ve removed the sticker. Very time consuming.

There’s only one thing to do if you are getting sick of doing something. Sack it off

Scraper on a pole would NOT work. They’ve probably priced it without the cherry picker thinking they’ll win the job and deal with it later.

The only way to get the stickers and residue off is to get up close. If there are any windows above ground and first floor then access will be required.

If they want it doing on the cheap then let the other firm deal with it.

If you get the main part of a label off even on a pole a bronze wool pad will shift the underside part of it if you put a bit of fairy on the pad first,as long as it’s small bits of debris or cement you’d be surprised what bronze wool can shift.

The only thing i can think of is some glue remover or white spirit etc on maybe a microfibre cloth wrapped round the brush head.

Or put it on one of those gardiner scrapers with the pad on.

Or even better on one of those pad things

Believe me, I’ve done literally thousands of new build cleans. A yellow Stanley scraper with a nice sharp blade, and some hot soapy water is all that’s needed.

If they want to be cheap and not pay for access equipment, when it is 100% required, then walk away. It’ll be more trouble than it’s worth.

I'm the same, up close and personal, or not at all on builders cleans.
I certainly wouldn't try to do them with a pole. Takes way too long, too much faff.
My weapon of choice is lighter fluid. Yellow tins. Seriously! And some sharp blades.
Having said all that, I don't do them anymore.
I don't care about the money, I just can't be bothered!

Nor will I anyone with enough work shouldn’t even bother, most of the time you are cleaning them up for another WFPoler to come along for a quick colouring in and run.

Isopropyl works well on stickers.
