Got a text today from new customer I cleaned last week she has a flat roof
Kitchen extension
There’s a bedroom window above flat roof
Text from customer Hi Lee, this is Jenny at W?&£ crescent. Sorry l forgot to send you my number last week so pls store it and then text me when your coming next.
I know this is a very random question but we have had a damp smell in our back room downstairs (room under flat roof) and ever since you came last week the smell has gone - did you move a pipe or tile maybe ? It’s great that smell has gone, but just thought l would ask in case the smell comes back 🤣. Sorry l know it’s random.
Many thanks Jenny
My response
Hello Jenny
Flat roof is asphalt no tiles etc
I can clean that window above flat roof by hand but that would mean walking on roof to get to it.
Rather than using ladder and cleaning bedroom window at distance not walking on roof.
Or leave that window?
Thanks Lee
What do you guys do regarding flat roofs
Thanks Lee

I can’t see where’s she’s asked you to clean any windows above a flat roof ???
Just said you’ve got rid of a smell

I must admit I always say do you want me to or do you mind me walking on your flat roof I don’t want to cause any damage etc,as long as you don’t tread close to the seams of the roof and you have flat shoes it should be fine.
It puts it in their head that it won’t be or don’t blame me when it starts to leak, flat roofs are awful anyway I’d never have one.
-
I think she’s suggesting you change your aftershave.

Wtf does your reply even mean? ;D
Are you trying to confuse her or us?
As for flat roofs, if i can clean the window above with wfp from the ground i will clean it, if i cant i wont. Simple as that.

Seems like she is very happy. The smell is gone which she is happy with. I very much doubt you changed anything just wfp cleaning.
If I knew I didn't disturb anything I would tell her that.
I didn't read it as a negative 'blame' txt almost a thanks if you did something and if so what so they can fix if they get the smell again.
I would be quite happy to receive a txt like that. Much better than the 'you scratched my window' txt when in reality it's an inside scratch!

Sorry 🤦♂️
Your right guys, I haven’t read message properly
She said smells gone.
I’ve spoke to her now 👍
I said there was no dead pigeons up there😁
From what I could see flat roof looked decent no tears rips splits etc
Told customer heavy rain forecast tomorrow and Saturday
See if smell returns
Flats roofs aren’t the best idea
puddles sitting up half the year
Tiny split and waters getting in 🤦♂️
False alarm 🚨 sorry 😐
But good points made about permission and flat roofs
Don’t try to walk on them if I can

I had a leak on my own flat roof a couple of years ago, went to investigate and ended up going through it with my knee. There was no sign of wear and tear at all and it made me realise what a complete gamble it was every time I went on a customers. I also found out my insurance didn't cover it despite being asked when filling out details on comparison websites about whether I had one and how big it was etc, spoke to my insurance people and they claimed it was a commen misconception and that by far the majority of people with flat roofs aren't covered!! This begs the question of what happens if the worse occurs? Will our own liability insurance cover it, I'd like to think it would but wouldn't want to put it to test, my experience of insurance companies is that if they can find a loophole they will. Never been on anyone else's flat roof since, and never will. Explained to existing customers the situation and they were fine, now use steps and longer pole for some and leave one or two altogether.

I always leave a dead pigeon on a flat roof to avoid these situations.

ive got no flat roof jobs left....ive dumped them all over the last few years...... :D

Are you selling your dead pigeons then, Daz?
-
If the bad smell has gone then maybe she needs a covid test. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yes, and Lee needs to isolate for two weeks.
Dead pigeons can be carriers.

Thanks very much for that info, ironically safer walking on a tiled extension.
Except for busting tiles 🤦♂️
