I have a 40/40 ro , if I fit a booster pump will this reduce the amount of waste water regards alan

Generally, no.

No
But you should get a better (lower TDS) and quicker production of pure

What is your water pressure and what is your waste to pure ratio when producing water?

Other things to consider are: is your membrane high or low pressure? Also your tap water pressure. This won’t affect your waste but it’s something else to think about when producing pure.

Why, is it because you are on a water meter? If so you can get another R.O unit and also filter the waste water, to make pure, off the first R.O, into the second if you like? Although the second R.O unit won't last as long due to the higher tds (crap) of the waste from the first. If that's what your trying to do? Or if you are just worried about the waste on the environment, then i don't think a booster would help this. A booster pump will just make the R.O work better and closer to the recommend 100psi level, meaning a lower tds output before going into the resin. Ive read that making 500L of pure, would produce somewhere between 500 - 1000L of waste on a HF4 R.0.

The only time you waste water is if there is a limited supply of fresh water to begin with. Pouring waste water into the drain, on the garden or into the street isn't doing the environment any harm. Its all part of the earth's water cycle.
I'm pretty sure your assumption is correct that the O/P is on a water meter and is concerned about the cost of all that waste water going to the drain.
However, I'm not sure that adding a second r/o to filter the waste is worth the cost and the drama tbh. But that's my opinion.
