For the last 3 years I have worked in light to moderate rain and waited for it stop and carry on rather than come home and waste a day.
But I do admit it is difficult to clean them to a good standard when it is raining, cloths get soaked just from a couple of windows. Difficult to detail.
I would think WFP can carry on as you do not dry the frames or glass.
Even though it was not raining when I cleaned a few this morning I had a couple of customers say "oh, I did not expect you to come today", and "in future I do not want my windows cleaned if it is going to rain later that day". I have a few that have told me, "after you came last time it rained".
Difficult to please everyone, all the time.

its been truly awful this morning here in the north west....wet and windy....luckily for me i only had 3 commercial jobs to clean which can be cleaned in even the worst of weather so did them this morning no problems...
im glad to be home and dry now though......
it doesnt look as bad for the rest of the week mate.... :)
-
I didn’t work today , iv found the key to success in this job is a 4 day week. It gives you 1 day off if it’s either peeing down all day or you just want a 3 day weekend every week :D

I find it handy to have a list of fascia/gutter cleans in the diary that can be done when it’s forecast terrible like today. That’s what I’ve done this morning.
Looking better for this afternoon so I’ll get through some houses until I’ve had enough.

In the words of Mick and Keith, "you can't always get what you want".

I have a standing joke with one of my customers as it seems no matter the forecast whenever I clean his windows it rains. It's happened so many times even I find it embarrassing. Thankfully he's a good customer and just makes light of it.
-
I have a customer who said every time you clean Windows it rains ,my reply was have you ever thought about moving because i do areas where it doesn't rain after cleaning 😇
-
we clean all weather types, but we're WFP.
we just train our customers to expect us
i have staff on the cleans though so i need them working consistently to pay their wages.
i would think if i were a one man band, i would reschedule on bad weather days.
i would think there is more of a slip risk too if you are working off ladders in the wet?

What he said^^^^
When I used to employ as soon as I had more than 4 days work for everyone it was a case of get another body in.....nowadays when I get past the 4 working days stage it’s time to sell some work.

Light rain of it?
But you are right. It's like people saying to the postman "it's better than walking the streets, isn't it?" ::)roll

I’ve worked through it today, Midlands. Nobody batted an eyelid
It beats me why customers don’t know it’s cold in the winter and wet in the summer, it is most years

I had another record day today.

Worked through today.
But I was very depressed doing it.
-
It’s just mind over matter.
I don’t mind, customers don’t matter.
-
I worked in the rain today. Hardest thing by far in my opinion to do when it's raining is leaded windows with the traditional method. Of course it just so happened that I had these very type of windows to clean today on a few different houses. Luckily the customers I had scheduled today don't really mind what weather i do it in so I was able to get everything done that I had pencilled in.
-
My customers don’t mind , I don’t mind working in passing showers but when it’s peeing down non stop , then i find it depressing!
-
It was bad this morning, luckily i had an excuse as r lass had a job interview so i had to look after the kids...which suited me fine i didnt have to engage in a mental battle with myself about going out to clean in that. Spent 6 hours doing my books ready for my accountant, productive day really.
Generally when it comes to rain, if i want or need to clean in it i will and if im up to date and want to give it a miss i will. I dont let the customers dictate, most of them will be used to me cleaning in some daft weather by now.

I agree, still doesnt seem long enough though...the balance is still 4:3 in favour of work. Id like to change that to 3 days a week, maybe working an hour longer and upping prices and it could be doable.

I have done a gutter clear and fascia clean this morning too.
I do have Gutter clearing on my cards and it pays well but I do not get many quote requests.
I have found that it is best to do Gutter clearance when the contents of the Gutters are dry otherwise it makes a mess on the outside of the Gutters. But I do them with a brush and bucket.
Do you have a Gutter Vac? I do not get enough to justify the price of buying a Gutter Vac.

Good point, I mostly clean bungalows now and only have 3 jobs where I need a ladder, the access is ok except for a couple of windows where the wall is close to the house making the ladder angle steep but at least it cannot slip backwards.
4 weeks ago the ladder did blow over and landed on my pole that I use for the windows I cannot reach. It dented the aluminium pole so I am buying a Gardiner this week.

Especially when your pole hose picks up all that grit on the wet ground and transfers it into the inside of your pole. I get stressed when I hear that grinding sound when next extending the pole.

Personally, even although I have a small gutter vac, I'm not promoting gutter cleans. I will do them for our existing customers but not for a walk ups.
A few windies in our area won't do them any longer, so why must I? We have a full window cleaning schedule so haven't got time for this add on now.
In the early days I did think that if we did gutter cleans and conservatory roof cleans where their existing cleaners wouldn't we would get the window cleaning job as well. It never happened in the majority of cases.

I carried a gutter vac for a couple of years but I never advertised it, just kept it incase anyone asked. After I had done a few though I dreaded anyone asking. So I just got rid of it and now can say no. I always hated it, much more hard work than windows and was just an interruption to my schedule.

Only stop if it's hammering down. I wait it out I don't go home.
If I've started the house I'll finish whatever happens.

You are in an ideal position with your well established business where you can choose to stick to window cleaning.
When I started in 2018 I would take on any work, 1 off cleans, FSG for someone that has a window cleaner but he wont clean FSG (never led to getting the customer), gutter clearances, inside of conservatory roofs, awkward houses, Now, like you I will only clean FSG and Conservatory roofs for my window cleaning customers and wont take on more house window cleans even though
I would like to double my customer base, it feels good not to do ladder much ladder work
