Have you lost any customers due to corona virus
I have lost 5 so far, main reasons being some customers have lost their jobs because of it
-
Lost 3 while we on lockdown - decided they couldn't wait so found another cleaner
Everyone else was fine

not sure we've list any domestic to be honest. a few (5 or less) missed some cleans using cv as the reason. we had one internal that we cancelled.
commercial is another story. lost almost all of them. about 25% of my turnover so much more of my profit...
AND lost growth i presume...

Somewhere around 300
So far.

Ouch....
-
Ouch....
Mostly shops etc, starting to come back now, hopefully.
Well maybe not mostly but over 100 shops offices etc..
-
commercial all, about 3 or 4 on residential, luckily commercial is only about weeks work but im starting to think wont see alot of them again
-
Its been a funny 4 months.
Some who did not want cleans now coming back.
Some commercials still on hold.
-
Don't do shops or commercial work gained more customers since virus but who no's what the future will bring
-
And some commercial now want to reduce frequency ...
It’s just because of the interruption.. they start to ‘think’ rather than it just roll on

I think commercial work will change from now on with windows even down to shop fronts,I now only do a handful of shops I used to do maybe 15 weekly years ago.
I know another WC he spends all Friday morning and most of the afternoon buggering about in the high street cleaning shops in everybody’s way,he could go and do a few houses in a fraction of the time and earn more money.
All the shops I know now want to pay online etc, used to be a good bit of cash work doing shops 🤣,waste of time now i feel sorry for people like Soupy that have lost a lot of work due to this bug it probably won’t come back to em.
-
my commercial jobs are back on their normal frequencies now.....lost 2 domestic customers due to them losing their jobs....picked up around 15 new jobs since march(all through recommendation and walk ups)...
so its all win win for me up to now......
-
Tbh I’m not a fan of commercial most of the time it’s aggro I have a few I’ve kept as they are very early and well paid and have kept going through this, commercial was lovely years ago out early and back early and earned a fortune 🤣🤣.

I ticked 20 plus.
Initially I lost 6 commercials representing about 20/25% of my income.
I lost about 15 domestics - mainly very elderly shielding types plus a few looking to stop for the duration of covid. One I suspect had financial issues as he made a fuss about me turning up unnannounced (I didn't - I posted a letter saying I would call that week but because I didn't phone him the day before he said no and I have taken that as a covid cancellation.)
I haven't chased any of the commercials yet. But one has asked me to go back and price up just external cleaning which will be less than half the monthly income going forward. Another has opened its offices again and asked me to go back in August.
So due to Covid I have lost about 25% income from existing customers.
However I have had a handful of new starters who have seen me out and about including an old dropped customer I have given a second chance to. So over all in money terms I am down about 20%.
I am not pushing to replace it - it suits my move to semi-retirement - but in August I will make approaches to two of the commercials and let the "on hold" domestics decide whether to come back or not. (I suspect most will want to but to be honest I am thinking of telling them that as their houses are so filthy now then my price will double for the initial clean and that prices went up in the period they twiddled their thumbs - that will sort out the wheat from the chaff)

What sort of percentage is that Soupy, if you've got 20k customers that's but a flesh wound but if you've only got 600 (which I know you don't) its mortal.

I haven't lost any, a handful of skippers that's it.
-
66% down on last year.
-
Gained a lot more than I’ve lost. The ones I’ve lost are PITA’s anyway.

Are you concerned about furlough ending in October.? We, thankfully, haven't lost much but we are almost 100% residential. I am worried what will happen in October though, mass redundancies could be a big problem. What steps are you taking to try and mitigate more losses?
-

That must be tough to stomach, what is your plan to recover that 66% income?
-
coming out of furlough will im sure have an effect - but this maybe more localised than a national thing
Here in Norfolk there is not really any large sector thats been hit say unlike an area based around a car plant etc.. we do have a large holiday sector but in the main these employees are seasonal and low pay - the B&B's and Hotels only want to pay a "couple of quid" for 4 storey ( 60 + window work ) so I don't have any of that and there is a large section of retired/early retired types here who will be largely unaffected money wise

I've got 100,000 flyers ready to go. Not fired them out as we don't yet have the capacity to service new customers quickly enough. All my non driving staff are still on furlough.

I am fully commercial.
Some stopped like shops, pubs, restaurants and a couple of offices but most are back.I had a very large school postpone in April and I have a feeling they are going to cancel again for the summer clean
I'm probably still down around 20-30% some have come back but some definitely won't.I lost a block of apartments I clean for a management company because the cleaners are going in cheaper.A job I had had for 5-6 years with no problems and a few others have gone.
This current situation is going to hit the commercial sector more than residential. This will give people the chance to shop about, change frequency or just generally drive the price down.
I don't think residential will be that bad but you will defiantly see an influx of new cleaners come in after being made redundant or looking for a change of job.You can already see it on the forums at the minute with every other post about new starters looking to get in to it.

in my OP I said that I had lost 5 but I also forgot to mention that since the start of the covid19 I have gained another 8 from walk ups seeing me out working so I'm actually 3 up.

Make more effort to get work in! ;D

I've lost 3 or 4, all due to financial circumstances, but I'm hoping they will return when things get a bit more normal.
Unfortunately, in January I had a bit of a 'cull' and binned off about 20 customers. Then 'ironically' I lost about another 5 due to passing away or moving out the area. I wasn't overly fussed because as soon as March comes and the 'silly season' starts, all will be well.
I kind of misjudged that!
However, this has given me push I need to get some more work, so I'm currently doing some Google Ads and will be putting out a little feeler of 5K leaflets.
See how it goes!

what type of key words have you chosen?
I started a google ads campaign last friday. so far it says 5 impressins and zero clicks .
I have no idea what I am doing? I am wondering whether its the radius as I put a 5 mile radius ?
any tips most appreciated

The only tip I can give is google all the info and look it up.
Unless you understand what you are doing, you could end up wasting a lot of money.
Take a few hours out and try to understand what it's all about.
There is loads of help on google concerning key words and it will be far better informed than I am.
It's trial and error.

thanks robbo . I have set a cap on the spend .... tomorrow I will increase the radius to 10 miles , and add some different words ... im not in a hurry. as you say its trial and error and about learning .
I reckon it could be a great tool when used properly... thanks for replying

I would leave the radius at 5 miles, maybe even 3 miles to start with.
Focus on getting the ads correct in this small area and THEN enlarge the area.
By increasing the area, you are increasing the potential to waste money, until you know what you are doing.
You will see that you get a lot of statistics from your google ad - impressions, clicks, calls, key words etc.
Try and understand what they mean. Get a basic tutorial on youtube.
At the end of the day Google will give you statistics and charts and lots of lovely information, but remember...
If you've spent £200 in one month and the phone isn't ringing, then its not working properly!

There wasn't an option for zero 👍

I've picked a few more jobs up recently again and also turned down 4 or 5 enquiries as it's not the sort of work I want to take on these days......
I would say overall that I seem to be getting more enquiries, walk ups and recommendations than usual.....

If you have customers that that have any clue they’ll stick with you,any newbie knocking on doors sticks out like a sore thumb and even more so when they start cleaning them.

Nice to see you back NWH ;D
