there was a post put up last year about what was the best business book you had read.
one of us mentioned Profit First and how it had changed their business.
I bought it myself and am working through it now. its amazing.
who recommended it in the first place?

Is this the book by Mike Michalowicz?
So, just of interest, how do you think this is going to change the way you run your business?

yes thats the one.
it gives you simple percentages to aim for various expenses and profit.
so you check your balance against these numbers to see how you are performing.. whether you need to push sales, or cut costs, on a weekly and monthly basis
just simple management statistics really.

Sounds complicated

Sounds complicated
not really.
its just a spreadsheet.
plenty of bookkeepers and accountants and coaches who will get you setup too if needed
once its setup its straightforward enough.
its not like your bookkeeping that needs to be spot on either, you just need the broad figures for this as its for your own management

Started listening to this today.
Thought it was a bit rubbish to be honest, lot of fluff. Maybe it's gets better when he gets to the point lol
Just got to the bit where he says open 10 bank accounts ... No not gonna do that.
Oh and sorry if forgot to call you Richard, I keep meaning to I'll try and remember tomorrow when I stop for lunch.

Hi Richard
Hope you're keeping well.
I've not read the book so may be speaking out of turn, however I'd prefer a book titled "People First" - look after those at "the coal face" and the figures will follow.
Yes you need some simple figures to ensure you're on track - daily cash position compared with last year is a good one
Favourite business books: Upside Down management by John Timpson, Nut's by Herb Kelleher & Maverick by Ricardo Semler - common theme is "People First" - works for me.
Latest read: Build to Sell - very good

hey john!
you are very strong on the team building side of things for sure.
Profit first isn't a ruthless business book like it may sound. it is showing you how to make sure you are always making a profit, and how you can use up to date info on you monies to run your business sustainably.
its not about how to make profit ruthlessly, but rather how important it is to make a profit in business, and how important it is to keep an eye on it if you are going to develop your business to allow it to become what you want from it
its something thats very useful for me, but maybe not for everyone. we all have our own strengths.
:)

Reading it now! :)

Sounds complicated
It has to sound complicated, there's nothing hard in building a window cleaning business, its holds very little financial risk and is almost mistake proof, but you wouldn't buy my book if it only said that.

The only piece of advise you need is that you must have a swivel chair 🪑the cash will come rolling in,to Rishi 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
-
Does that book give advise on how to steer clear of 1 o’clock gotta pick the kids up employees and the Mrs needs me to run 🏃♀️ her down the town at 2 🤣🤣,saying that does it give advise on sniffing out the people that actually view it as a job of work 7-30-4-00 ish.
It sounds similar to a book I once read called how to sniff out rocking horse S**T.

We have used profit first for about 4 years - great way to improve what you do.
I met Michael Michalowitz over in Texas 3 years back - he is great to see live.
train your accountants to use it too, they will resist at first but push them - get those bank accounts open and start making a profit!

thanks for the info Darran :)
