Title: diesel heater users....... 20amp fuse holder problem
Post by: dazmond on June 16, 2020, 04:19:11 pm
my heater wouldnt fire up this morning so i changed the 20amp fuse and it still didnt fire up(red light goes off after 30 seconds or so,if that).....i need to change this fuse holder i think as it has melted a bit inside and i think thats why my heaters not working......ive changed the fuse 3 times now in 2 and a half years and its always solved the problem....

i reset the heater by taking the fuse out while the controller and heater setting ON......then i turned off the controller, refitted the fuse and turned the controller back on.....the heater did actually start its cycle for 30 seconds or so then died on me(red light went out)......

where can i buy these fuse holders from?i guess ill have to disconnect my batteries from my system when i fit a new one...im convinced this is where my problem lies........

You’ll need to get one from Oliver it’ll be wired to the fuse holder from inside.

Do you ever find out why the fuse blows Daz?

Normally too much current draw  or the wire guage isn’t big enough .

Daz , have you had it serviced or any new parts since new , out of interest?

Never had a problem with mine but I have a fuse board not one of those small things with covers on it I personally feel  they overheat in that tiny plastic box thing (http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1592327068_35D1557E-07AD-42DC-AA80-019022D0D878.jpeg)

Almost sounds to me like the heater needs cleaning out/ de coking if it’s not blowing the fuse.
Prob looking at two hours of windowcleaners wages to service (£200 +).

Just looked at mine Daz , the heater on the van that is , it looks like the same holder as yours , it’s showing signs of degrading now  , I bet a £ to a pinch of poop that it’s the problem , mine took 2 attempts to fire up last Friday but I thought nothing of it at the time.

The problem is a dirty connection between the fuse and the holder and it’s not creating a good circuit and is then arching causing heat and the melting of the holder this will cause the boiler to cut out just needs the holder replacing and a squirt of electrical contact cleaner every few weeks/ months .

Try and borrow a proper crimping tool too if you’re changing the bullet connectors. Most electricians would have one. They ratchet the crimp and do a proper job.

Mine are flat connectors not bullets I checked them today it looks fine although where it connect from inside the cabinet I can see a bit of wire before the flat crimp.

Get a bit of insulation tape round the bare wires mate ASAP and make sure they haven't come out of the crimp!(they shouldn't do).....
