Title: Window cleaning jobs
Post by: swanson on June 10, 2020, 05:21:17 pm
Hi Guys
So my dilemma well not even a dilemma a window cleaner in my area (trad) suddenly died of a blood clot and he was a reall y nice guy only 67.
I have been getting his customers wanting my services as hey need their windows cleaned I’ve took on a couple but it’s just not sitting right with me at the moment.
What’s your thoughts on this would it bother you guys.
Or would you just think business is business.

If you knew him and got on well?
Why don’t you take on any jobs he used to do and maybe give a percentage or half of the first clean to his family as a gesture, I’m sure they would appreciate and it will stop you feeling guilty about taking any of his work on.

I didn’t know him well
Just saw him around cleaning windows. All his old customers keep telling me that he was a really nice bloke.

I don't want to be harsh but he's dead not ill. I have refused new customers over the lockdown when they said their existing cleaner is unable to work but if he had died, well that's fair game isn't it?
I'm sure when we pop off our customers will find another cleaner before long.

he s dead.......of course i would take some of his customers on if they asked me...ive never known a window cleaner come back from the dead to carry on with their round! ;D

i wouldnt deliberately target his work....i bet most of it would of been underpriced anyway but if they asked and it suited me and they dont mind paying more for a better service then YES.....i wouldnt think twice about it....

I can’t see it bothering him  now can you, would you take a job off another nice window cleaner if one of his customers asked you to clean them as they didn’t want him anymore.

Take all the business you can handle from his former customers. Maybe call in and see his wife and give her a percentage of the money you have generated.

This is a slightly different approach but bear with me...
Try and get the phone number of the deceased, off of one of his old customers.
Phone his wife and explain the situation.
I would offer to buy his round (there is probably a record somewhere) and take pot luck.
More importantly (and this happened to me).
Offer to sort out all the customers and take on any new enquiries to his mobile or landline.
I was offered a round for free, (she approached me)
The wife was so upset with people calling (asking where the window cleaner was) or new customers, she couldn't deal with it.
I contacted every single customer so she could have some...peace!
The irony here is that the small round was an absolute crock of crap and I wasted a lot of time.

This happened near me a couple of years ago. Old fella had a good round, if a little underpriced, got I’ll and died. I tried contacting his son who was dealing with his affairs to offer him some money rather than his round going to waste. He wasn’t really interested though, couldn’t be bothered dealing with it was the feeling I got so I just took on all the customers I could.

i would leaflet drop the area and canvass it over the next 2 weeks to be honest

nothing wrong with that at all

you're just offering your services. so long as you are honest with them and respectful, go for it

When one passes over, the absurdities of  this existence are no longer a worry to you. He's probably appreciative that you are considering his feelings and that you respect his memory and taking care of his customers just like he did.  Bless him
