Hi guys
Looks as though Gardiners backpacks are sold out until Mid July looking at website. Are there any other backpacks anyone recommends that are as good as gardiners or even better? Thanks

I would defo be surprised if that is as good or better than a Gardiner backpack like the OP asked, not expensive though.
-
got several - yes they are

-
Bayersen at Full Clean Centre sell 20 liter backpacks on Ebay, much better than the Gardiner one, better quality parts.

Nathan has snapped up the lot 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hi Darren, very cheap indeed, £40 new, i couldnt see anything about the pump but i take it would good enough to pump a virisol mix upto facias height?
-
That's what I use mine for - theres a video at the bottom of the listing if that helps
All I do is cut the pipe - fit a rectus fitting and then plug in my pole hose
I have a gardiners backpack - 2 identical to gardiners with different branding stamped on them - 3 other various models like the one in the eBay link and a mobi17 - bike "pressure washer" they all perform the same, all take chemicals and other than the odd wire falling off ( yes that also was on gardiners backpack ) have been excellent
Major difference is price,.....
Darran
-
I’ve just read these responses. Thanks for the info. I would need to fit a rectus 21 on the end(or whatever comes on the end of the gardiners backpack) but sounds like it’s just a case of cutting and putting one on with an O clip 👍
-
Hi Darren
Does the lancer sprayer for this backpack just come off and then you put a rectus fitting on the end of the black lead? Is this a standard 5mm fitting (rectus 21) or I think you can get a 6mm fitting also? Thanks
-
Have they got these available on their website?
I cant find them on there anywhere.
-
Slacky, if you click the original link for the backpack, then copy and paste the item in the ebay search bay it will come up with another brand new option for £39,99. Sorry, cant post a direct link at the mo.
-
Hi Slacky
If you go into the sellers listings you will see he has more for sale at £39.99. I’ve just bought one. For £40 it has to be worth a try as per Darrans advice.
-
Just bought one too, got to be worth a punt at £40.

normally the lance has to be fitted to the end of the hose supplied with the backpack - I just cut whatever fitting off their hose and put on a rectus fitting

Keep us posted on how good they are 🙂👍

Looks very cheaply made.
-
They're all cheaply made in China. Imo there's really no difference in the quality of most of them. The one Gardiner sell is made by Kobold, they just get their logo printed on it and supply it with the fitting we like and a UK plug.

Hi BK
Whilst most of these sprayers are made in China, they are not all from the same factory or use the same components.
Just to clarify our backpacks are not made for us by Kobold :)
-
Fair enough Alex. I've bought backpacks from you in the past and from ebay (branded kobold.) Visually though, I could not tell them apart hence my comment.

Hi BK - If you bought an old V1/V2 from us, from about 8 years ago - then that was manufactured by Kobold :)
-
At least I haven't completely made up or imagined it then. But thank you for the clarification. :)
-
Just bought one too, got to be worth a punt at £40.
Just to update, it arrived today, and is ping water through the bottom where the pump is, its also 16 litres not 20 as stated
which doesn't bother me but not good when advertised incorrectly. So maybe wasn't worth a punt. Awaiting reply from supplier.

Its pretty much the same thing as the mobi bike pressure washer on wiggle.co.uk , its on special offer there for £99 and free delivery, you'd just have to cut the lance off and put on your own fitting. I'm not sure eiher of them have a variable flow control setting though.

Ok, so not great but it can only be something simple like tightening up or replacing a jubilee clip.
-
try nipping up the clamps

Electrical junction box big enough to fit a 7hr battery or higher and a cheap chinese pump. Stick an on/off switch on it. Attach to a trolley and add your drums and away you go.
All you need is some time in an evening after work to put it all together and the next day you have a trolley system.

Do you know when they are likely to be back in stock Alex? are we likely to find that certain window cleaning equipment is going to become unavailable over the coming months due to lock down of manufacturing and the supply network across the world? are there certain items that it would be wise to stock up on now as we go forward the next 6-12 months?
-
All of these backpack sprayers are cheaply made with similar components.
I have a 16l ebay one that cost £40, I've had it years and it's never missed a beat.
In that time I've had a facelift big boy which cost £100 and broke in the first week I've also had a wcw one which dropped to bits also.
The cheap ebay one however has outlasted them all.
I don't believe any of them are any worse/better than the other they are all essentially the same components and it's pot luck how long they will last.
But luckily they are cheap to fix, £10 for a pump or battery and a few quid or pence to replace any switches or fittings etc.
The facelift big boy was way too heavy, I find the 16l a much better size to carry about.

Hi Simon
As mentioned on the product page we are expecting the backpacks to be available by Mid-July - could be a little sooner, but difficult to say at this stage.
Is the lock-down affecting production? It has affected certain goods already - the last batch of backpacks were delayed by about 6 weeks due to factory closures in China in February/March. This created a backlog in demand so that when the shipment arrived they were then in much higher demand - combine this with more people wanting sprayers for other purposes and the batch did not last long. This next batch should sell at a slower pace and we have our next production run all planned so for the backpacks the only issue we have is 'catching up' from the previous delays - there is actually no issue with production now.
Apart from the backpacks the only other major supply issues have been:
1. Hose - Hose production suffered about a 2-3 month pause in this country. Fortunately we had a very good stock of hose which we have been working our way through and production has now re-started just in time for our stocks levels.
2. Extra Large size of Biodegradable Nitrile Gloves - getting hold of these is becoming more difficult now - we started off with a very good stock of certain sizes which is why these are still in stock. This is due to high demand and not a problem with production.
3. Not something that most will notice, but cardboard has come under greater demand and a supply shortage so we have been having to use different cardboard packaging than usual for the last week or so.
Regarding other items in our product range we have a good stock and supply stream, with no known manufacturing delays due to the lockdown. Other retailers may be facing different supply issues than we are depending on the country of manufacture.

Sorry never until loaded pictures before. Have put in rectus 21 fitting on end of black hose and the other end of black hose it’s screwed into the backpack. Backpack turns on but no water is coming out. Am I missing something? Thanks

The last picture has another smaller compartment on top of the backpack with another thing you can fit something on. Surely it’s just the black hose one end (from second to last picture) and then other end with rectus 21 fitting with pole plugged into it?
-
Also (sorry to go on) when you have the black end screwed in at the front and even if I have the other end just loose and not attached surely the water should still come out? It’s all turning on ok and you can hear it running but just no water coming out
-
So you turn it on and the pump is running ?
without any hose on it does it pump water ?
silly question you have water in it ? ( sorry had to ask )
Darran
-
Hi Darran
I haven’t tried seeing if the water comes out without any hose at all. Just going to try now..........
-
Hi Darran
Just tried and no water coming out at all with no hose on it. I’m assuming the water should be coming out of the front of the backpack?
-
Ps yep plenty water in there

No hose in. Surely water should just be spilling out of the orange thread attachment as per picture?
-
Aha. Put a screwdriver in the hole and it seems to have worked. Water coming out of that hole now. Must have been blocked. Let me try with connections.....
-
Sorted!!! All working. Attachment on and works a treat. Get pressure also. First impressions are as good as gardiners however whether they will last all day without a charge is another matter as i work from a backpack. Even if it didn’t last as long still great for an emergency.
Will keep you updated. Cheers Darran 👍
-
super. glad its working for you

Fair play to them, full refund and can keep the backpack. :)

Got this one on Ebay about 230 Australian dollars. That's about 126 GBP
18 volt and we made it so we can use Ryobi 18 volt chargeable battery to power it as well.

Hi H-man. This looks a great find for backpack users. Is the pressure good? Also I read somewhere it can last for up to 55 mins continuously so will this not last several houses like the gardeners one?
-
Just checked eBay and they don’t ship to UK. Message comes up when you try to buy. Are there any other type built in backpacks with wheels on the market?
-
Here are the dimensions.
As said battery wise we can use Ryobi rechargeable battery's that we use for drills etc,
We have 5 so no problems in that way.

Thanks H man although doesn’t look like you can currently buy them to be shipped to UK. Maybe due to pandemic. Also Amazon won’t ship from Australia either. Will have to keep looking. Surely there must be other similar products on market.

Found this. You can buy trolley on its own but again no idea if any good. Anyone use this or hear of this brand Maxblast?
-
did you fix the leak ?
Darran
Sort of, the outlet screw thread part off the pump had a crack in it which upon inspection has now sheared completely off. Ive superglued it and put a bit of pdf tape round it which makes it usable in the short term as i'm just going to use it for spraying virisol to facias but really need a new pump. An exact replica of this pump costs £39 ,so same price as whole backpack but will look round see if theres a cheap alternative.
-
you should be able to pick a pump up for about £7 ( a little bit more as I can't see any Chinese sellers ! )

there's not a lot to choose between them, there is a bit of room should the sizes not be identical

Thanks Darran
Looks as though the backpack (may possibly) just slide into the crate and off away you go. They have a 25 and 35kg version. Anyone know how much a gardiners Backpack weighs full up? Cheers
-
I thought the crate was for demo purposes ???
basically its 1kg per litre of water and I would say a backpack itself would be around 5kg
Darran
-
I could be wrong but it looks like a foldable crate that goes into a trolley. Sounds like its worth a punt for £12.99 although I believe Gardiners backpacks hold 22 litres which would be 22kgs weight of water Plus around 5kgs like you say for backpack. Maybe the 35 kg one then. Will let you know how I get on 👍
-
Have all the backpacks been bought now ???
Has anyone a fresh link as I'm drawing a blank
-
the best I can find just now
