oh wow.   How interesting.   those trolleys = first wfp trolley perhaps, without the pole!!   Very interesting picture.    Imagine having to push that cart to all the customers AND clean the windows.   They earned their money back then....every little shilling.

there is a guy i know who has a cart just like that he pushes it around faster than i can drive 8)

I've got an old window cleaning cart like that in my back garden. In was in the yard of my old firm, est 1897 too, for years. I'll put some pics up when I get time.

And I thought lady window cleaners, were new to the trade but that picture goes way back. well done lady's

I can remember the old window cleaner when I was a kid had a hand cart. Actually it was probably a very efficient way of working. Imagine trying to do it now with 250 litres of water on board.

The guy who cleaned my parents' windows in the early 60s had a pushbike with a sidecar attached which had his ladder and bits on.  I have faint recollections of the dog getting out and me running after it to get it back.  I got lost (only a couple of streets from home) and the window cleaner saw me and he put me on his sidecar and took me home.  Now I would struggle to remember which children went with which house.  I struggle enough remembering which adults go with which house sometimes.  Can you imagine it these days?  H & S and the police between them would be nicking him for an overhanging ladder and social services would have their thumbscrews out trying to get him to admit to abduction.
I can't be sure of my age at the time but it was certainly pre school.
