Title: It’s amazing!
Post by: zesty on May 14, 2020, 01:55:59 pm
...How many window cleaners on here earn under 50,000 squids.

So many of us taking the grant money. But I really thought we all earned £3-400 a day?

 ;D

This forum does make me laugh 😂

Reality - most on here are doing £25,000 a year.

Good old clean it up 😁

Window cleaning has always seemed to attract more than its fair share of insecure, short arsed, inadequately endowed, gob sites who feel they have to "prove" themselves constantly. Not being held in high esteem by some of the general public doesn't help. People who shout the odds about money in my experience are either exaggerating their wealth or doing the exact opposite and deliberately understating what they've got. It's the quiet ones you want to keep an eye on. 😊

Exactly!  We dont know everybody's examples of what they earn on a day to day basis and nor do we need to know.

As a railway nerd I call it the Mallard syndrome.

Mallard is the fastest recorded steam engine ever to run and it topped on a slight downhill slope out at 126 mph in 1938.

At the time the fastest average speed scheduled for an express train in the UK was about 60 mph. Most fast passenger trains travelled at an average of about 50 mph.

But steam buffs remember the rare 100mph  plus recordings of their favourite locomotives.

Window cleaners looking  through rosy-coloured glasses remember the highest days and make them their average after expenses.

(Sorry to disappoint PG as I haven't mentioned WW2)

NWH aside, I can't remember last time anyone posted about doing 3-400 a day.

The average across the country will be much lower than that, probably more like 200 a day.

Besides that let's be straight, this is based on what you have declared.

Lol dear me people quoting 200 a day I don’t know a window cleaner that Max’s out on that a day,if they do it’s because it either a lifestyle choice or they are running it till the kids get kicked out of school.
I know there’s a limit to what you can earn within reason but come on set your horizons a little bit higher than the above, maybe depression is rife in window cleaning maybe that’s the reason.

It’s the general consensus Adam, the amount of times pricing threads come up and you hear outrageous claims amount money made.

You then realise at times like this, that people are actually earning so much less.

It’s an observation you can’t miss after being on here for years.

It’s what makes this forum unique.

It’s not that m8 lol you’ve got people saying you are lying if you earn much more, window cleaning is all about what particular jobs you do or type of jobs.
I know a few 2 blokes per van that knock out 6-800 a day without blinking,if they don’t earn great money on any particular day-week it’s because they it’s there choice.
200 is 4 that’s FOUR 50 quid jobs not 20 running your arse off 10 quid jobs, kettles on I can smell the coffee brewing.

I’ve met countless lazy arsed window cleaners over the years that quote 160-180 a day, they’ve all got the same persona they wreak of negativity they all have a chin that is welded to their breast bone lol.
They clean the same work every 4 weeks-month which we all do but they never make the effort to sort wheat from chaff,as Daz once said it’s all about shifting sand or to put it another way replace the crap with cream.

Window cleaning has always seemed to attract more than its fair share of insecure, short arsed, inadequately endowed, gob sites who feel they have to "prove" themselves constantly. Not being held in high esteem by some of the general public doesn't help. We all know that prices flutuate on here from region to region and so one mans earnings per dsy may greatly differ from the next.
However, after speaking to a chap who has bought the vast majority of mine, I was amazed.  We were talking prices and obviously he has my prices and so he knows im not talking poop.  Work he has bought in the same areas where he has no expanded due to my work vary greatly.  In the same village and the same style of house, their old prices (i say old as im sure it wont be long b4 he adjusts them) were between £4 & £8.  Mine are £15 upwards.
So its not always about being lazy but hitting the sweet spot as far as pricing and quality of service is concerned.

For me, the work I have left for myself consists of 14 houses and a nice steady drive between the two sections.  Easily done within a day and thats going steady and trad.   This will fetch just over 200 and this is Doncaster.  (Adwick and stainforth, x mining communities as well).  This is just a small section that I saved.   So obviously if working full days and as i was without a change of circumstances then it isnt hard to push well over 200 a day for one person.
However, its not a simple case of saying it can easily be done is it.   Individual house prices, how saturated the area is can also inpact upon said price and the work ethic of the individual and their purpose for working.  Additional aspects will also impact their net profits as well

i turn over around £45-£48k a year and work similar hours to you(my expenses are higher though due to van and hot water system)......i could earn more if i worked harder but TBH  i can live like a king up here on that.......

ive found my sweet spot....now im comfortable with my income and hours theres no desire/incentive to work longer and harder....

time is more precious than working more....

i dont know any window cleaners earning £300-£400 per day on a regular basis up here........im quite sure there are guys doing that fairly easily esp if they live down south as the pricing is off the scale!...but so are their living expenses!

NWH you are not doing anything special, ive no doubt you can earn £400 a day you just happen to be in a very good area.

But I said £200 a day average across the country as a whole, everyone knows you can earn silly money down south. But up in the North East you can buy a house for 50k. Cleaners up there probably struggle to get a tenner a house, I know cleaners that do about £150 a day and they are not lazy.

But on the point of the thread, 50k could probably be done anywhere, just some could do it in 3 days a week other 6 days.. I do £250 a day average but I only work 4 days a week and probably only 45 weeks of the year.

That’s why us southerners sound like we are talking crap, you can’t compare the prices what you’ll get £15-20 for a house we may get 35-40.
Everyone should keep in mind that when someone quotes prices they should stop and think what area are they in,prices vary massively throughout the country.

By the same token then you should stop saying those cleaning £12-£20 houses are scraping the barrel. The bulk of my domestic work is houses around the £15 - £40 mark which is mostly stand alone stuff.

Up here if you’re averaging around the £200 a day mark on domestics you can and will live very comfortably. Add to that some very well priced commercial and you are flying.

What kind of personal overheads are people paying down there these days? House prices, rents etc?

back when i joined this forum in 2009....i was trad back then and my earnings were a lot lower at around the £18k a year......i was getting tired of climbing ladders,id also sold some work a few years previous too due to ill health but had started to build back up again...i was working longer hours and still collecting 3 hours a week! ::)roll ;D

i think the first year WFP my earnings went up 5k as i was charging more because i could reach all the awkward windows on my round and picking up new work.....my expenses went up too though as ive experimented (more than most!) with various poles,equipment,vans,etc... a £3k a year rise in earnings year on year went on for years and has not plateaued until recently....

i might only work 5 hours on the glass a day but i work hard in that 5 hours, most of my work is very condensed so i can just burn through it at a fairly fast pace......then another hour a day purifying water, charging batteries, printing slips/invoices and admin.......30 hours a week is enough for me.

Expensive mate, 2 beds going for £240-250k and 4 beds in my area are £450-500k for a nice one!

I do about 5 hours a day as well Daz. I could work a lot longer hours, but like you, I’ve found the sweet spot for now. I average 4 days a week though.

I’m now more bothered about getting quality well paying work than anything else.

You earn an impressive wage for up there mate, especially at 5 hours a day.

I would assume yourself and Danny are two of the higher earners compared with the average up there, Sole trader wise.

Where about in the country is that? Tbh it’s not a lot different at all to the area I live. There’s not a lot of 2 beds in my area, but 3 beds £280k+ and 4 beds £340k+.

I suppose the difference here is that’s the top end of the market, head over the other side of town, only 3 miles away and £100k will get you a 3 bed ex council house, £70k for a 2 bed terrace.

North Essex deegee, but south Essex you’re looking at more again, perhaps £290-310,000 for a 2 bed.

Over half a million easy for 4 beds.

My wife’s parents have bought a few buy to let properties up north, just because it’s so much cheaper. I think that’s dirty Leeds way though, not Manchester.

I reckon if I lived Yorkshire way, with the wife’s full time wage as well, we’d be in a 4-5 bed house.

It’s not a huge difference then to some of the better areas of Cheshire, for the family sized properties anyway, I thought the gap was a lot bigger than that tbh.

Cheshire is quite a nice area though, for Manchester way?

The equivalent areas in north Essex would be much more, I’m just quoting the average for Colchester, Braintree and the surrounding north Essex towns as a whole...

most of the window cleaners i know are doing ok these days due to wfp......i bumped into 2 of em today (ive known for years!).....some of their prices are low though...

one of them always asks me if im still cleaning mrs ***** s house......."yes no problem mate!"...he still cant quite believe that i charge £40 more than him(he used to charge her £25...i charge £65)..he dumped the job because he seen it as a "grudge" clean....it used to take him around 90 mins off ladders.......it takes me an hour WFP...... ;D

i was one of the first to go WFP in my area 10 years ago....now their all WFP apart from the odd one or two die hard tradders......

the only reason i have a decent, solid round now is literally years and years of  being consistent, reliable and professional.........and nearly all my work is concentrated into a small  3 mile affluent area......

being organised, equipment tweaks and knowing your work well also helps massively with speed and efficiency...
